A large proportion of my FB is taken up by sharing missing animals. What a sad state when they aren't even safe in their own garden or car. Hope she is found. |

Yes Garnet my page is the same but i feel guilty if i don,t share them, one friend moaned at me the other day saying she was sick of seeing all my posts of lost animals, but if one of my gang went missing i would be begging people to share their photos on FB so i shall keep sharing them all even if it annoys some. Any news Heidi ? Our neighbours dog was missing for a few weeks before it turned up in a field, we think somebody took it then found out it was chipped and dumped her back near where they took her from, she was only a puppy and was still in fab condition even after a few weeks so somebody had been looking after her. |

Thank you for sharing. It certainly is EXTREMELY scary. I try to have Elmo under 24 hour guard! No news yet sadly. I worry about some of the dogs I look after sometimes, as they are in outside kennels. |

Exactly sab - I share yours even though I am miles away because you never just know who will see it. Still seeing dogs tied up outside shops - don't these people have FB? |

So hoping this dog is found safe and well. We had my daughters Staffie stolen years ago, must have been local children / teenagers as a few enquiries in the neighbourhood saw her safely back the next day in the garden she had been taken from but I can still remember the panic we felt at losing a family member. More recently my Friend had both her car and her little dog stolen. It's a sad place this country has come to where nothing is safe but it should be! We should not have to be always worrying but until that day comes (never) I have a garden fenced like a fortress. I think vets may be able to play a more active part; my dog has been microchipped for 13.5 years and the only time vet has checked has been when I asked to make sure it is still working. All responsible owners would be happy to have chip checked at every vet visit and if "owner" unable to provide matching ID alert the registered owner via chip provider. This would at least provide some deterrent.

Very well said Ari. Like you, the only time my vet has checked Elmo's chip has been when I've asked. |

Good news that the 2 dogs found, man released on bail for handling stolen goods I have also read that chips can move and I have never thought to get my dogs checked when at vets, but I will in future. (I love a good vets bill!) |

Fabulous news both dogs found safe and returned home. Chips can definitely move or stop working, Dex is on his second and that's behind his ear! Dog walking by myself is becoming a worry when it should be a pleasure. "Handling stolen goods" is the usual cop out, the tale will be he was looking after them for a friend and had no idea they were stolen. Dogs aren't stolen goods they are part of a family, the law should be strengthened and I have written to my MP who so near the election is keen to help. |
