Thank you Sally, yes the second pic is Dex who has the most fabulous nature with people, dogs and his cats but is the best killer of rats ever. He also chases rabbits and of course is not quick enough for the healthy ones but I got brave enough to let him instantly prevent long suffering of many poor bunnies with Mixie. He is a star the happiest chap ever loved by all he meets and very much a terrier with a mind of his own can learn anything in a moment but chooses when to apply what he has learnt and I love him to bits. |

Your welcome. amazed i managed to do it as technical stuff is not my strong point I miss having a terrier about, always used to have a JRT till the last few years, i think having Percy has probably put me off having any more dogs bless him, hes been hard work from day 1 but we love him dearly. My first ever JRT Smidge was also ruthless when it came to killing, my second one Millie Russell was not in the least bothered about killing anything, i do miss having them around, Smidge was 17yrs when she was pts so had a good long life. Your puppy looks like she should be on the front of a box of chocolates |

Both gorgeous.....I so wish I could have a dog (a scruffy terrier) but as I live on my own I'll have to wait until I retire.

Dolly came home yesterday, Dexter has been great as I knew he would and he is dealing with pup in a very friendly yet reserved manner and carrying on with his own routine of barking, lounging with cats and being with me. My cats were my big worry as they love Dexter and I didn't want to upset the relationship with cats sulking and going off, but they have so amazed me. Both came to great pup in their own time whilst I was sat with her, had a sniff and a stroke and ate their food. Kept both in 24 hrs, pup slept in crate in my room and both cats on my bed. So relieved, they do know more than we think. Weather worst for house training pup, hail, high wind and rain but we have been out there.

Well done Ari..she looks adorable and sounds like you are off to a great start.. the cats usually get a bit miffed when pups around about 12 weeks and everything goes in the mouth but if you've got your 'Nos' in hopefully it will be as smooth!

I don't think I'd fancy going outdoors to be house trained at the moment!!! (Although in my field I have no choice) |

Dolly is amazing so clever and phased by nothing, wrapped in a towel she did all friends at the yard, then Sunday lunch with family including grandchildren. We have been to vet today for health check and 1st vacs and she is healthy and normal at 8 weeks. That has set my mind at rest. As long as I put in the hard yards and take her out every 1hr (day time) she is learning the right way. She woke me at 3.30 last night and we were both heroes in terrible wind and rain but she did a poo. Dexter has taken on a new interest, puppy toys have treats, he is my star. Sally, I will send pics ASAP thank you

Apologies for being bad at pics but just an update. Dolly is now 13 weeks, has learnt cat body language and not a claw or hiss has happened so all good. I really had forgotten how hard it is to raise a baby of any kind but life is returning to some normality. Dex has a routine of playing with her every afternoon and part of the game is sharing his biscuits so he is eating better and playing . She has taken all socializing 2 or 4 legged in her stride and is getting into the way of farm and home life like she knows her job. It is challenging balancing the needs of an older dog with a pup but it has payed off for them both, Not least because I have had set clear boundaries for Dolly to make sure Dexter's quality of life hasn't changed. Dex even at 13 won't be left in the car, never done a crate or good recall and is too old to learn, I love him dearly but have learnt from him.

Thank you, I have tried to get it right but take little credit as Dolly is a very easy puppy and Dex has impeccable social skills with dogs and people and I am sure that helps. We can have dogs on the yard if on a lead and Dex is used to walking beside me doing jobs or being parked outside the stable and Dolly is learning fast. This has been a real advantage as I have been lucky enough to socialize her with well many known dogs of all sizes and types with no risk of a bad experience. We start training class next Saturday, that's a first for me. |

You are totally right, my puppies always learn very quickly from their mentors! It makes such a big difference having a calm well mannered dog to show your pup the way! My black lab has been Auntie to over 10 GD puppies that Ive walked and a countless number more that I have stepped into help..the biggest help is always how the dogs deal with the delinquent in their midst |

Thank you to Sally for posting. It was a big day for Dolly to meet my daughters very lovely Staffie Indy, they will share many happy times together. We waited until pup was a bit bigger as Indy is a tad clumsy and doesn't know her own weight bless her. Uncle Dex is behind me and relieved the girls get on as it gets him out of entertaining either of them. |
