how horrified I was to read about this

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/horse-killed-dumped-garden/?utm_campaign=hhfri17oct2014-17-10-2014&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/horse-shot-and-dumped-in-familys-front-garden-in-yorkshire-village-9800206.html

Apparently the horse was on loan, god knows how the owner feels.

I am utterly sickened, and if my horse was on livery there I would remove it asap.

If they couldn't approach it because it was 'kicking and rearing' how did they get close enough to shoot it 'humanely'?

Its shocking isn,t it, it was on our local news last night, he was a pig farmer who failed to make money so went into horses, if he can do this to a somebodies horse god knows what he used to do to the pigs he owned. RSPCA lease land off him at the farm where this happened. Lets hope Karma dose its job he he gets whats coming to him.

Horrifying...I read poor horse was still alive when dumped in garden. I would love to hear the other side of the story as this is so extreme.

Humanely killed? Not humanely dumped in the loaner's garden. There has to be a prosecution pending. I read this on facebook. The loaner said that the horse was still moving when she went out in the dark to investigate the 'lump' in her garden. Surely an amicable agreement could have been found.

The GG Centre, the place of the horrific events where the lovely, fit, well and healthy horse was shot dead over a paltry £30 is also home to a group of RSPCA (England & Wales) rescue horses.
We have had many people contact us asking if the RSPCA keep horses there or thought they may be at the farm next door, so we contacted the RSPCA for clarification and they replied.
Here is what #8234;##8206;vanah#8236; asked them:

"It has come to our attention regarding the horse killed at The GG Centre Ltd, that the RSPCA is leasing land at this centre for its horses?
Can you confirm if this is true so we can cease any rumours from escalating.
What do the RSPCA plan to do with their horses housed at the site as clearly they cannot be seen to be supporting such a horrific incident of abuse by the owner of the property against a tenant, if the RSPCA are also tenants?
Can we ask that a press released is issued on this information by the RSPCA?
Thank you in advance.

AND HERE IS THE RSPCA REPLY:

Thank you for your enquiry.

The RSPCA has horses at this establishment but none of the RSPCA horses were involved in this incident and the yard is operating as normal.
Because the RSPCA has more than 800 rescued horses in our care, we need to use private boarding to look after these horses.

Thank you for contacting us.

RSPCA..... Yard is operating as "normal". I hope not for the sake of horses still on site as what happened is as far from normal as care of horses can get.
Having seen the picture and with experience of euthanasia by gun I doubt very much that horse was afforded that dignity before being dumped in the garden.

Typical hypocritical, useless RSPCA. I hope everyone who's got liveries at that yard moves ASAP!

In response to this incident a H&H member has started this HMGov e-petition. Please sign and share, if you agree with it.

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/71053

Animals are currently treated as property with only a financial value in the eyes of the law, civil and criminal. The law needs amending to reflect the emotional value of pets, horses and donkeys to their owner.

Killing a low value horse, dog or cat does not equate to breaking a window, except in the eyes of the law as it stands.

This is well overdue for change.

Also, for those who haven't read the whole of the epic H&H thread, the RSPCA have issued a statement.

"The RSPCA can confirm that it has removed the 12 horses which had been kept at the GG centre.
There are more than 700 horses in the RSPCA's care throughout England and Wales and it is never easy to find new accommodation for them, but these horses were removed as soon as we had new premises for them to go to.
Whilst the horse involved in the dispute was not an RSPCA horse and was put to sleep humanely, meaning no animal cruelty prosecution can be taken, the RSPCA does not condone the euthanasia of a horse for reasons other than to safeguard its welfare."

Signed. I remember when my horses were attacked and the police, although excellent, said it was treated as criminal damage.

Put to sleep humanely? I thought two men were arrested for shooting her?

Couldn't sign as not a UK resident but shared.
Luckily in Italy killing an animal without reason is a crime already.Even not helping an animal that is ran over by a car is.And you absolutely CANNOT euthanise a horse (or a dog or cat) unless he is terminally ill or suffering beyond cure.
I don't understand how these people could take the decision to pts a horse without the owner's or loaner's consent and dump it on her garden lawn. How on earth can this be right?surely they broke the law?

Frankly I cannot see that shooting a horse for £30 livery and dumping it (still alive according to some reports - so it was NOT humanely destroyed if that is the case) in someone's front garden is legal. Particularly as the woman in question did not even own the horse. Dumping a dead animal (pet) that you have killed particularly one the size of a horse in a front garden could surely be seen as a form of threat/intimidation, even if it doesn't break the law about responsible disposal of a carcass/cruelty/unlawful destruction of a healthy animal. I don't think anyone in a court of law would believe their actions were those of a reasonable person

As for the RSPCA....well at least they have removed their rescue horses but yet again they fail to impress

I have just read on FB about man who allowed 4 horses to get into such a state that one had to be put down. As he was already in prison for cultivating cannabis he was offered the CHOICE of either ONE EXTRA DAY inside or a fine of £2200. Guess which he took? Our legal system is a complete farce!

Garnet, yes it's a farce. Offences aren't related and the £2200 should be paid in full but small money to a Cannabis farmer so no deterent for future abuse of animals.
There are too many people about that operate how they like when they like with no regard for people or animals and the legal system needs to catch up.
