My mare's stable has just been relined with MDF (not my choice but yard owner's) as her nephew had eaten great chucks of it. She is a 'termite' too, and I'm worried about her chewing on the MDF, as I know it is poisonous. The only thing is, I can't put anything liquid on it to stop her chewing it, as it degrades the MDF, so it looks as though creosote (I have some of the proper stuff!) is out.

So does anyone know of an anti-crib product that comes in a paste and REALLY works?

Thanks!

Keren

When my foal was chewing her mums tail a couple of years ago i posted on here and somebody told me to try tabasco sauce (i think thats what it was called ) on her tail, it certainly worked for my girls tail. Good luck hope you find something.

Ive always had a lot of success with Cribox, the original is a very think paste that sticks for Scotland (or England/Wales etc....!) Just don't put your hands anywhere near your mouth after applying, even after washing 3 times

Cribox is very effective. I think you can now get a liquid version too. In the past if the paste is too hard I microwave it for just a few seconds then applying it is much easier!

A few years ago our hairy pony was taking massive chunks out of our barn. I bought one of the crib stop products, can't remember which one, but he liked it and quickly licked it all off. Next day being a Sunday I got worried about how much wood he was eating so painted the wood with the only thing in the house that sprang to mind to stop him. I mixed half a pot of chilli powder into a paste and painted it on. Pony licked it and then spent the next 10 minutes walking around the stable with his mouth wide open. Just as I was thinking how in hell am I going to explain this one to the vet he went back for another lick, followed by more walking round with his mouth open. This continued until all the chilli was gone and he started on the wood again.

I then thought taste is not going to stop him I'll have to try smell. I then tried putting neat disinfectant on the wood and at last the smell stoped him from eating it.

Good luck I'm sure someone here will have a solution that works for you.

I have MDF in one of my stables..think they ran out of chip board and used what they had!
I have painted it with gloss which makes it waterproof..you can put whatever spray you like then on top.

Everyone in my life brings me happiness, some by arriving others by leaving.

I always use washing up liquid on tails , rugs ,doors . May be too wet for MDF but works with most . There is always one who likes to lick it off!
