FILLY Nebraska foaled a week ago, after keeping watch for two nights, by the law of sod when we nipped home to put our youngest to bed and have a quick cuppa, yes you've guessed it there she was on the floor all dried off too and starting to stand but they were both fine and that is all we cared about, done all our checks but in our excitement we didn't realize that she hadn't passed enough meconium! (sp) The next morning they went out to have a stretch for a few hours before being tucked up for the night. When Martin got there next morning it was obvious the foal was in pain and she couldn't stay up, we had to support her to feed. Thinking back it was classic meconium retention but at the time we were worried about more serious conditions, it was very scary! After a couple of visits from the vet though she was up and bouncing around just as she should be and now you can't keep her still so here's a few pics and I hope you all like her just as much as we do xx
Oh and as you can see she's grey

Congratulations she looks lovely , so is mummy and is the sire your chestnut boy as hes rather dishy as well. I don,t envy you a winter foal though, i bought a TB mare back a couple of years ago as they couldn,t get her in foal and low and behold 5 weeks to the day of her coming home she produced a colt foal out of a Black Arab. It was a long winter having them both in as we are up north and high up and it was cold and snowy , he was born on 17th oct and we finally got him weaned in the spring, he went to a lovely home with a lady down south who is a vet to do endurance, we keep in touch and she sends me photos. Good luck with her shes fab |

Thanks Sab, this foal has been a long time waited for so although the timing is all wrong we are prepared, we have been fortunate so far this year to have had mild weather so at least they get time out to run and stretch. Yes Nabil is the Daddy and whenever we turn them out he is not happy and calls to them constantly lol she is 3 days old in these pics x |

Hi thanks all, and yes hannahbtw she is definitely a keeper, but alas Martin has claimed her as his own but I get to play with her as much as I like Sazzlepants I have another pic somewhere that has all the herd lined up at the fence looking at the filly, lol they always do it when there is someone new in the foaling field!! |

Thank you thank you for taking the time to comment, it means so much as this girl means the world to us and we are very proud of our boy doing what many have failed to do, lol I think it's because Nebraska really does love him......she won't allow another mare to look at him in her vicinity |

big congrats.
I think your right, I have had that happen, where mares were doomed never in foal again, and natural and getting to know the stallion helped and got them in foal. My new repro vet who is VERY VERY good, thinks this is clearly the best way for older mares with problems. |
