And thank you all for your lovely comments on my stallion. I'm exceedingly proud of him. This year he's been reserve champion at south of England, champion at Kent county, champion at Edenbridge&Oxted and champion at the Cherif. Beyond my dreams that my baby boy could achieve that this year :)
I'm just as proud though that his 3 half sisters (same dam) are between them competing in affiliated show jumping, dressage and hopefully soon eventing!
I'd happily most on here more often about them but really didnt think anyone was interested.

I knew someone would take offence Martha, i wasnt having a go at anyone - you seem to think i'm condemning you? I know very little about you other than you posted a picture of your mare the other day, which i commented on favourably.

I meant, there is a notable change in the type and tone of posts than there used to be 5 odd years ago, and that brings with it a sea change in the type of poster. There are much less competitive threads, and a lot on horse care/saddlery/bitting/alternative methods, a LOT on abuse and neglect, and very little regarding competition in whatever sphere. There is quite a tight knit community it seems which i am not involved in as i don't feel i really 'know' anyone on AL like i used to so i stay on the sidelines. I actually find it a bit intimidating which is why i don't post much - not anyones fault, i'm just saying.

I am not passing judgement that this is a bad or a good thing. I personally have less to say on AL now but i do read a lot, even if i don't comment. I find the competitive threads much more interesting but that is because that is what i do and that is what interests me - that isnt for everyone, which is fine

Pam, your boy is gorgeous, and I'm sure there are a large number of people on here who would love to hear all about him, and his three sisters! I certainly would.

Hi Pam you've done brilliantly with him you should be proudI think most are very interested and I would love to see more posts about your successes & other users on here.
Have to say showing is like marmite ...but I do think its massively important to support it at the end of the day there are plenty of disciplines out there for us to take our arabs to but its so important to support our shows..I love reading about who is taking what where ..and now I have a new young horse I am keener than ever!
And often the showring is a place we will all dabble in at some point - there is a showing forum on here but its nice to see achievements the discussion topic too from time to time.
Garnet, last time I rode at the cherif was 1998!!! good old days!!
anyway, off to post in the showing bit about a lovely show coming up in the south ..happy days everyone!!

On another point which unfortunately is not much to do with the OP, I find it really sad that people read some sort of implied personal criticism when someone posts about what interests them, or what they would like to read about. I do not see why people need to feel defensive (unless it is a direct criticism which is a different thing altogether). I am not really interested in Natural Horsemanship or dressage, but I'm not going to complain about anyone who wishes to post about it.

It leads to a sad situation where people no longer post on here, it is quite obvious that a lot of people are still reading the threads, but not posting, which is reducing the number of topics discussed, which I feel is a very real shame. So come on people, we are a diverse set of people, we are bound to have a diverse set of outlooks, but surely we can have a healthy exchange of views without becoming personal or rude, or taking offence where none was intended. Nobody should feel they can't post on here for fear of criticism. This forum is for people to share their love of the Arabian horse in all aspects.

I too miss the threads on the history and breeding of the modern Arabian, they are so interesting, and there is no doubt that the Forum has changed over the last few years, that's not necessarily a bad thing. But please, if you want to discuss a topic, showing, breeding, competing whatever, then start a new thread, because I am sure that other people will be interested too.

Sazzlepants, my last time was 1995 - Garnet was injured in 1996 and didn't qualify and was a high-speed hack until 2001 when she became able to do circles again and embarked on her second successful showing career - never again at the Cherif though, although she would have qualified if we'd had the card. My first ever red rosette was a qualifier for the Autoscan, forerunner of the Cherif, and we did the Cherif from '91 to '95. What was the name of your horse?

Back to the general discussion - I wondered yesterday whether, instead of all the different performance threads which are largely ignored, we could perhaps just have a thread called 'Achievements' to cover everything from first ride on a new horse to winning at HOYS. This would be for EVERYONE who enjoys sharing their own achievements and experiences and reading about other people's (who doesn't love Jess and Tiger?) Photos would be obligatory and reading anything on that thread would be optional. I love reading about and seeing other horses and what they are doing. Just a thought.

Hi Garnet, my PBA was harvards panchache sadly I lost him aged 17 to cancer 3 years ago now xx
I like the idea of the achievements tab myself - although there is a congratulations area..but that's a bit empty too!!
But you are right, it is nice to see positive threads and photos rather than neg, too much of that in the world! Our horses make us happy - share it!
