I went to watch the Mid Group Show yesterday and was amazed at the poor turn out for the majority of the classes. As a group member Im quite concerned about this and was wondering what were the reasons behind the lack of turnout. Is it the economic situation or are there other reasons people didnt go? In the ridden open classes there was one gelding, one mare and no stallions, perhaps you didnt go because it wasnt a HOYS qualifyer? Im just curious as to why it was so low on entries? Comments please x

I think part of the problem may have been because it was on the same day as the south east spring show which had hoys qualifiers (for thd first time) so there were a lot more ridden entries and people from further afield then normal.

ThatI can appreciate, but the entries for the in-hand were pretty bad too tbh, one or two in each class x

It was a strange reversal that the AA/PBA classes had more entries than the pure-breds on the whole!

People are being so much more cautious about where they go and what they do, instead waiting for the bigger shows later on. For several different reasons I believe.
We haven't attend a single spring show this year, ours isn't for monetary reasons, mainly because every year that goes by the spring shows are becoming less and less of an occasion not to be missed.
You can say well then that becomes a vicious circle, the less who attend one year effects the amount who want to make the effort the following, but it's so hard to find the time if something isn't worthwhile. I don't think the late onset of spring helps either!
On a positive I do believe numbers at C shows will remain quite good this year, even considering the climate!

Interesting thread, i am the show secretary for SE Spring Show, which was held on the same day as the Midland. We did have HOYS classes and the entries were good. Gelding 14, Mares 12 and Stallions 8 [6 forward] We also had Novice classes which were very well supported with around 11 in each class. Not many people from miles away as we did not have stables. The in hand i had entries, but i was suprised that over half of them did not turn up on the day. I can only think people made the entries hoping the horses would be ready and look ok for the show. But with the long winter, alot of horses still had their woolley coats i think people thought better of it. In general i was pleased with our entries and we have had excellent comments on the day..... I think entries will be down, it will be interesting to see how the National Show does this year.... I am looking at 107.00 stables for 4 days, plus classes plus fuel and i come from Kent..... Will we go? not sure.
