Well after months of training me and Zar have our first PR tommorow. Only a 20km this time. I am bricking it as I am going on my own, and he has.been a bit of a toad lately. It has been about 6 years since he went on a ride and probably the same for me. Its been 3 years since he went anywhere!! I have practised loading etc on my own and he has been a little star. I have even taken him out for a kittle drive in my new trailer and he was fine. But last week, whilst out training, he had a complete hissy fit and full on bronced me off, because I wouldnt let him canter and then ran off! I had to limp along for about a mile to find him. He stood nicely while I clambered back aboard and walked home quietly. But I am worried he will do this again. He is always a lot more forward going when we go on exploring hacks finding new route's. I have asked the ride organisers if they can try and pair me up with someone, but they havent been able to:-( he can also get a bit silly in company when going faster. I think its just the grass coming through that has made him a bit of a wally, but he looks ves out 24/7 so I can't get him off it for long. During the day. Usually about 3hours. Please wish us luck. And I will let you know how we go.

Good luck. I think Eba is on her first ride this season this weekend too.
Can't wait to hear how you've got on and hopefully to see photos. Delighted to see how far you've got after Zar's acident. To be where you are is amazing.

No she is down in Wiltshire. I couldn't find anyone locally, but she does have a fab loan home. I think she is doing the Bluebell ride. She did well as a novice last year and I think will step up to Open this year.
Looking forward to hear how Zar goes.

Lovely EBA. Glad she is doing well. Our first novice will either be the wimpole ride or if I feel hes not quite ready the kings forest in July. I will see how he is tommorrow and see how many more PRs we can do before June. Then decide wether to enter PR or GER at wimpole.

Well we did it. Tuned out it was 25km. So even better really. I found a lovely companion for the ride which helped settle Zar down a bit, and he was a star. We only took it easy this time. My goal was to just complete the ride without incident. We didn't make any great times. There was a fair bit of road work, and some.of the tracks where quite rutted and then set like concrete so we had to take it fairly steady there. But there was a couple of really good canters. One of them was about a mile long. He coped with it all really well, and was still pulling for more at the end of the ride, so I am really happy. He must remember doing this before. The minute my bum was in the saddle it was time to go. He was dancing around at the start whil we gave the rider in front a minute or two to get a gap between us. I cant wait for the next one now. |

Fantastic news. Sounds like you're both getting the bug. Have you seen the try before you buy EGB scheme? Think that might be worth considering if you haven't already. |
