Haven't posted for a while; lost my lady Kate "Phantom Orani" back in January aged 30. Vets did all they could but after 27 yrs together I just knew when my greedy girl stopped eating and enjoying life she had given up and I should too. And with the terrible weather and such a late spring she is in the right place.
Happy long life well lived, if only all neds were as fortunate

I'm sorry for your loss, but happy that you gave your lovely mare all the things every horse deserves in life, and so few get. What a lucky girl she was. |

If only all horses were as well-loved as your Kate! She must have been very special to you, and you must miss her terribly.

I am so very sorry for your loss, but she had a wonderful long life and as you say, she didn't have to go through this long long winter/late spring. She is in a better place with the sun on her back and you have 27 years of love to comfort you, it is so very sad when they have to leave us. |

Very sorry to hear this. It is so hard to say goodbye, but as you say, a good life well lived and the knowledge that you made the kindest decision for her at the end. Those two things are the best we can ask for our beloved horses. |

Thank you all for such kind words, it really is a comfort. I am very lucky to have had her and she was well and happy up to last few weeks when her age prevented her getting over what vets thought was a virus. Chestnut mares with lots of Crabbet seem to have excellent genetics bless em. 30 years with no illness or lameness other than a brush with laminitis at 15 and I never let that happen again.
She was in light work upto 26yrs then she started a new career as lead rein pony for my grandsons; I was often heard saying "hang on granny wont let her run off with you". Happy days.
I can't bear it when people dump old horses, send them on loan or just turn them out without daily attention and routine they are used to
It's not all sad, I have my Ari, every granny should have a 15.2 Arab, fabulous boy but nickname at the yard is "swerve" and he does lol.
Again thank you all for your kind thoughts x
