To continue the theme of Arabians performing
My 13yo daughter is determined to annexe Marcus Aurelius now that she has truly outgrown her 12.2hh pony and last weekend we took him for the first time to the Junior Winter League Showjumping Finals at Cricklands along with her sister's Connemara pony mare and about 450 other entries . It was good to see that there were a handful of pure-bred Arabians competing well in addition to a very good number of ponies that were evidently PBA's
Marcus adored the fairly intense atmosphere ("Its all about meeeeeee...) and was placed in 3 of his 4 classes with times that would have seen him into the overall medals had they not developed a bout of "4 faultitis" and gaining a certain amount of admiration in the process . It was probably just as well because just as he revelled in the atmosphere, Poppy hated it and unravelled completely ... Always difficult...! B is very much looking forward to taking her homebred Arabian Rosie next time
The best bit for me was K coming home saying that she wished that she had put him in a bigger class because the fences were too small and that they'd be in the 3' next time

And because he just can’t help himself!
Back to endurance this weekend, just a 32km to start escorting the kids on their mares for their first endurance rides.

Congratulations, he's lovely, and a great performance from the pair of them (and he definitely could cope with bigger jumps)
Hope Poppy learns to cope with the atmosphere |

Thankyou all
Callisto, I'm not sure about Poppy and big atmospheres. She's just not an extrovert "everybody look at me" drinking it all in type. She just became a very insecure pony.
However it would seem that endurance is right up her street! We did Forest of Dean at 13.78 kph today with the pace being set by Poppy and Rosie, and Marcus with me keeping a close eye on the whereabouts of his harem He was a very good boy, if a little antsy when he couldn't keep proper tabs on them at the vetting but, as an experiment in what is possible (travel him next to 2 of his "own" mares in the lorry, split to vet, ride together, split to vet and leave to eat haylage on lorry together)I'll let him off a few heart-beats extra...
All of us happy tonight!

Ha ha Ali Bali, you're not wrong there! I've felt for a while that my job has simply been to take Marcus to the stage where he is the perfect teenager's horse! I'm certainly not brave enough to go with him 1/2 the places he enjoys going (show jumping, cross country....)- however I do claim precedence when I decide that its my turn to ride him There was no inducing me to give up the ride on him yesterday

Glad you had such a good day at Forest of Dean, and that Poppy found something she loved
Once you let the children ride your Arab, it is practically impossible to get them back on their ponies . I think they are an ideal teenagers' mount, but of course you need to keep first dibs on him |
