Last weekend, me on Rosie, Chelle on Bertie and our friend Kim on her welsh D x Milo had a wonderful hack from Whitby, along the coastline to Robin-Hoods-Bay, then back home across the moors.

All enjoyed it so much that we decided to have another long ride after I finished work yesterday, so during the week, Chelle look online for a hack out, and I did the old-fashioned way of studying the ordnance survey map. We found a route, to a place called Falling Foss and Littlebeck ,but weren't sure if we were going to set off as we had a snowfall yesterday morning, but by lunchtime most of it had gone.

Off the 3 of us went:
,
but half an hour into the ride, Rosie stopped, had a look around and turned back to come home the way she came? 3 times she did this? Not a clue what was wrong as she has never done this before? Once we got off that stretch of road she was fine?
Bertie liked to lead for most of the way, strutting his stuff with tail up:

At times we felt we were riding ontop of the world! What a view:

We found refreshments for the horses, but there was NO WAY on earth Rosie was putting her head anywhere near the lion, so we had to find a stream, but Bertie is so nosey he'll go anywhere:

we worked a route out that took us past a tearoom (I'm always hungry so was looking forward to a hot chocolate and bacon sandwich). It wasn't to be as tearoom was closed for winter!
Just over 3 hours later we arrived back home. We're taking the 3 of them out hunting next weekend, then looking for another long route for another day.
I really appreciate how lucky we are in having such a wonderful place to ride. We have the beach, moors, loads of bridleways.

Looking forward to Connor coming home and getting him back out and about

Oh Lordy, I must be a soft Southerner because where are your coats? There is snow on the ground and you are riding out without a coat I would be a frozen block of ice and have to be winched off the horse

What a lovely ride! I am also a soft southerner - I don't hack for 3 hours in the winter bbbrrrr!
Mind you, I've just checked the iPhone weather and apparently it's currently 5c in Edinburgh and only 2c here in SE Essex so maybe I'm not so soft!

Took me nearly 2 hours to thaw out - it was sooooo cold, especially when we were on the top of the moor, and both me and Chelle had thermals on.

The pain in your feet when its time to get off, OMG

But still worth the ride out - fab

Rosie, always enjoy your posts. As always I am left feeling extremely envious of your beautiful hacking be it in rain, snow or shine
