At last we managed a 5 mile hack on Monday. Sunny and bright and a pleasure to be out and about. It has been so long ...weeks of ice then gales then snow. I began to think we would never ever get out! It poured with rain and we had really high winds yesterday but managed to get out again in the school for a short spell today. Laddie is such a star...no high jinks - even after weeks of doing nothing.
Callisto you'll need sun glasses when you see him in his new tack! Has anyone else managed to get out much?

oh poor you...do you have to be on board whatever the weather? In which case last night must have been horrendous! Have not used white in this bridle. It's just mainly royal blue with a bit of scarlet....but it is the bright shiny "neon colours" biothane so you won't miss us! Saving up to get new reins to match! |

Yes we also got out and about with Salad and Senj on Sunday, sadly all road work and Salad didn't really like the water obstacles, he usually likes to leap over/around water, but somewhat difficult when it extends right across the road and into the fields! He at least went through it though, Senj would have required the human to wade through first to check that there were no alligators (kindly splashing water all over said human as he wades exactly in their footsteps), so needless to say was glad that he was the second out so a different route could be taken.
However, having been jabbed they are both now off again as they've both got swollen chests - this time got them jabbed in the chest so they maybe a little lame but at least they can eat unlike last time when there was much misery and much hand feeding when a swollen neck meant that he couldn't put his head down. It's going to be difficult to get them as fit as we want for the start of the season if we can't ride them for more than a day at a time! |

Cinny and I been out and about - snow, ice and rain not stopped us. Had some amazing snow canters. Last weekend fitted in a 13k canter on the forest, there was a lot of puddle jumping and spray and a 14k road ride out onto the downs for hill training. Yesterday we had a lovely jumping lesson. Now just got to hope we'll be ready :) |

Here we go - this pic we had cantered to beyond where you can see and there might have been a bit of gallop coming back to where the pic was taken - one of those very magic moments
And after the excitment of the snow gallop there was a canter Cinny back uo here on the way home - this pic was taken on the way out

Lucky you, definitely makes us envious. Unfortunately we go straight out onto roads so only chance we get to ride in snow is if snows on a Friday or Saturday night and we can go out first thing before any cars - managed this once last year and it was great. Once cars have been over far too slippery to risk and no chance to get out until it thaws. Sadly it's all clay soil round here as well, and it's currently very wet and boggy, so training consists of lots of trotting on the road (and wearing out of hoof boots).
Are you getting fit ready to try the Golden Horseshoe again? Seem to remember you posting last year about being very unlucky and vetting out at the start, but being fine later, sounds so arab like! |

Yes we're going to have another stab at The Stag at the Golden Horseshoe. We came down to the conclusion that it may well have been an abscess that got us vetted out at the pre-ride vetting as it came on so fast and she was absolutely sound the next morning.
We do have to do about half a mile of roads to get to the forest - but she is careful with where she puts her hooves in the ice (bare) so we managed to get out however icey it was. |
