Anyone else coming to the marathon today? We're doing the pleasure ride and hoping to avoid the rain!

Three cheers for my friend Charlie and her horse Mr Darcy who came eleventh - Charlie described it as 'the ride of her life'!
Charlie has my mare Jamana on loan - Jamana is half-sister to a previous Marathon winner, Khayed!

Thankyou so much everyone xx
It was a fantastic ride, Bryn loved it! I honestly intended to just take it easy but he was on a mission. I was very, very on worried the first circuit ... Bryn and I had a bit of a lengthy discussion about the definition of 'an appropriate speed'... but his heart rate dropped like a stone at the vetgate and he flew through so I agreed to let him enjoy himself on the second!
I was extremely impressed with the likes of Pauline's Dainty Dancer at 22, still going strong and fast... amazing, also Gazy de Lux at 18 going like a train... fantastic and a credit to their owners
Cheers Lisa

Well done to Lisa Adshead for winning the 2012 AHS Marathon with Shakmari Gold (Mareschal x Shakhira Gold by Golden Cavalier), extremely impressive performance especially winning the racing finish against Nikki Malcolm on Gazy De Lux. The first 10 home all went a great speed round the course, all very impressive and of course 22 yr old Dainty Dancer (doesn't look her age at all), another superb performer who lets age be no barrier (a real credit to Pauline).
I loved doing the AHS Marathon this year on my homebred mare Sakeena Sky Zayin, both of our first attempt, the first loop went great and we were sitting in about 13th although about 5 mins off the leading group, but I was pleased to do the first 13 miles/20 km in under an hour. But it all went horribly wrong when I got lost on the second loop, wasted about 20 mins retracing my route and did another 4 miles, so we just hacked quietly home for a completion. Will be a lot more clued up next year as I will know what to expect, me and Sky had a bit of a culture shock. Great event though and looking forward to doing it again next year! |

Well done to all those who did the race and especially to Lisa and Nikki.
Special 'Brilliant - well done' to my pal Kim Bradley who came in third on Willow, who also got 1st mare and 1st Anglo.
Once again Kim is proving her brilliance as a horsewoman. She is so consistent, brave and determined and she passes this on, with her wisdom as a trainer, to her horses.
Kim was the owner/trainer/rider of Carabineer (Hassan) who won the Dubai Stakes and was a lead for the Arabian Knights, the late Linda Hannaford's all-purebred-Arabian team chasing team. I've put up pictures in the past of Kim and Hassan clearing a MASSIVE hedge with an open team chase team. Well done Kim for Sunday's triumph!
Great performance all of you!! |

Just thought you'd add to the challenge by sneaking in another 4 miles Paul?!! It's easily done, I get lost on a regular basis, on more than one occasion when there is a repeat loop Bryn has had to put me straight when he remembers the route better than I Even on the marathon he swung right at one point, correctly ... when I was blythely going to carry on straight off route! Fantastic that you did it on a homebred mare... it would be nice to have a homebred award, might even ask if I can sponsor one! Thanks for putting up Bryn's breeding I admit I am a bit of a Crabbet fan so was pleased he did his bloodlines justice. As you say it was a lot of fun.
