Does anyone know someone who can come and back my 5yo 14.3 arab in fife? Must be VERY experienced with Arabs. I wanted to do this myself but have a back injury so can't. This injury is nothing to do with horse. She's started lunging and had tack on. Due to being mistreated as foal she is ear shy so bridleing is slow progress. I don't want to send her away so would need to be at my yard.

Joy McLean is the best person I know at backing any type of horse. She makes even the most difficult of horses look easy. She breeds, competes and judges arabs Her yard is in Broxburn near Edinburgh though, so not sure if she'd be willing to travel to Fife. I'll PM you her number to try and if she can't travel, she may well know someone else who can. |

Would it be best to wait until spring now? Just thinking that you won't be able to ride much. |

Thank you Jill - I was trying to remember Joy's surname during the night as she was the first person I thought of.
I can't think of anybody in Fife who has massive experience with Arabs but Alwyn Maclean will certainly travel to your yard to work with your horse. He's not the biggest fan of arabs as a breed, he says they're too pretty, but he is very kind when handling horses and is very direct in his manner which I appreciate, but isn't for everybody!
It might be worth having a chat with Leanne Dryburgh at Wester Bogie, as she normally has her finger on the pulse as to who is doing what and might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck. |

Thank you. Don't want to wait to spring as she's getting bored. She was used for showing previously and loves to work. She's so switched on and needs her brain to be active. I'll defo phone joy and if no luck with her then leanne. Is that the same leanne that has cob stallion chief? |

Hi Claire. Yes it's the same Leanne. Her yard is just down the road from Sainsbury, heading into Kirkcaldy. |

Hi Claire,
Sorry to butt in on this but I had no idea you were only in Leslie. I'm a professional lurker on here I'm in Markinch. Would love to meet your baby horse if that's not too much like stalking!! lol Have you long reined her too?
I have 2 arabs in my life Both at the other end of the age scale - mine are age 20 in 2013. My mare I've owned since she was 3, my gelding since he was 12.
Will you be bringing your girl to the Riding Club once she's broken? Would be excellent to have more arabian company!!
Heather
PS I have lessons with Alwyn too and although he's definately not a pure bred fan- quote ' oh god it's an ayrab' unquote- he so 'gets' how their heads work. Both my ponies are polar opposites personality wise and he taught both with exceptional results. He does say exactly how it is - and very directly - but I love that way of teaching. Doesn't suit everybody but he gets my vote |

quote ' oh god it's an ayrab' unquote-
LOL - I remember that one well, although there was always a rather more colourful adjective just before the Ayrab.....he must be on his best behaviour when he's with you, Heather.
I so wish I knew of you guys when I was last in Fife - I was in a large yard with loads of eccentric owners, and was the only one with an arab. I think I've been scarred for life by the well meaning, often used phrases such as - "I didn't think an arab could do that", "She's so well behaved - for an arab" and my personal favourite..."Why is her head that funny shape"...
Wandering off topic here, I'm glad that Heather has replied positively about Alwyn - he really is amazing with horses and I think your girl would be in excellent hands with him, Claire.

Blue Sonnet - gutted we didn't realise we were so close! I believe that a group of performance arabs showing up together at SNEC or where ever and simply competing along side the other horses goes a long way in improving our breeds reputation. Its not just the odd individual arab that can jump/ dressage- they all can if they are given the chance!
Alwyn rocks as a trainer- and, just for the record, there WAS a colourful adjective before the 'Ayrab' When is the Boss EVER on his best behaviour??!! But seriously - Zante and I had come to a VERY bad place in our jumping which I thought would take at least a year to get by as Zante is an uber sensitive lil dude - 3 measley lessons later it was a mere memory! The Boss rocks!
lizabeth39 - excellent! Hopefully we'll meet up if Claire copes with my 'stalking' request I would love to meet your horses too! Arabians quite simply make the world go round and its time way more people were introduced to this fact! |
