Hello, dear ALiners. Aragon the P has been with me for two years on 2/11/2012! He is now taller, fit, nearly 90 kg heavier, muscled up, shiny, pampered and can do most things pretty well, including spook at the most innocuous things whilst ignoring Kent's version of the Bullet Train flyiny past him!
I was riding out yesterday - he was doing his best slow elevated and balanced trot which I was sitting to. Very relaxed and comfortable too. I used to hunt sidesaddle as a child - so secure and elegant.
Soooo - got to thinking that A the P would be lovely side saddle. He is in a WoW and does beautifully in it. How would you - or would you, try him with a side saddle? Closely supervised and instructed by a side saddle expert/trainer and with one of their saddles of course?
Anyone made this transition? How did it go? Do you still do it? Any pics?

| Very interested in this as one of my first memories of an Arab horse is a picture of it being ridden side saddle, I would love to try it, but never got around to it. |

| There is someone I know who is a member on here although not seen her post for ages, saw her ride her mare side saddle at royal international, she looked lovely and as far as I am aware the mare took to it well, her names claire bird. |

Contact the Side-Saddle Association - they are very friendly and there will be someone in your region who will have the answers you want. Mind you, I have known someone who put a side-saddle on her Arab for the first time just before the Pairs class at Malvern, and went and won the class!

| HI Zoocat. Jess and Tiger (Kubla Khan) do side -saddle and there is some video and pics on the forum and /You tube. She hasn't posted much this year but I know she was enjoying the side- saddle. |

| Zooscat - there is a saddle maker who is also heavily into sidesaddle based in East Kent. I can give you her name/number if you decide to go down the sidesaddle route. She produced a M2M WH saddle for me years ago and it is beautiful, and VERY keenly priced. |

| There was a post on a year or two ago which mentioned a lovely Arab we used to see at the National Side-saddle Show and who also hunts etc. Can't think of his name at the mo but if you look in archives you might find him. |

| I ride mine side saddle occasionally, and she is fab. My friend does re enactments on hers, and she looks very elegant, and has great fun. There was another side saddle thread on here a few weeks ago, with quite a lot of pics on it, which were beautiful. |

Hah, thanks v much, knowledgeable and helpful people! I shall contact the Sidesaddle Association, find someone who is near-ish and contact her. Will keep you posted! If we are good at it and A the P seems to enjoy it, i will check out your recommendation Gemma. Thanks folk!  |

I ride both of my arabs side saddle, they took to it fine, and both are ridden astride in a wow saddle. I was riding side saddle as part of the premium parade at the Dubai Day International at Newbury racecourse, sadly I was there on my own so I had nobody to take pictures, otherwise I would post one.
