Sorry to hear this Leia ...I would ring all horse/tack auction places and give them the serial number on it encase it pops up at a later date. Maybe try and ring yards in your area too...i know it maybe much further away by now but you never know, could be chancer's and they may try and sell it fast and close to your own home town ... hope its found.

How horrible, I hope you get it back; with online media nowadays there is certainly a quick wag to get the message across - can you post on FB so the non-horsey population can be made aware?
Did it have a ball-hitch lock and/or wheelclamp? I heard something interesting recently; a wheelclamp should be on the rear wheel because if it is jacked up and towed, it can still be towed if the clamp is on the front wheel.

This is awful. I am so sorry for you!!! I have a Bateson Deauville, too. They are great trailers. The fact that yours has a BLUE stripe may make it easier to locate. Mine is yellow, and I thought later how I ought to have ordered the pink stripe as it is more distinguishable.
Did you have any lock on it at all?
I have one that is like a wheel clamp, but a thief could still steal it if they had the right power tools. I recently bought a hitch lock as well, but haven't figured out how to put it on.
Wow, I really am so sorry for you. |

Sadly it doesn't matter if you've got a wheelclamp and hitch lock, as thieves easily overcome them. They deflate the tyre, remove wheelclamp, then re-inflate tyre! Then they simlpy chain the hitch onto their towball and off they go! 3 men were in then process of doing this to my neighbour's Ifor williams catle trailer when she disturbed them one afternoon last year(4pm). When challenged, they simply unchained the hitch and sped off. Police never caught them....... |

Good news that your trailer has been found! So, did the neighbour of the "friend of a friend of a friend" have anything to do with taking it, or was it dumped? All very strange!

So glad to hear it's been found! I had this happen with my first trailer - a dog walker in a small village a few miles away found it hidden behind a stack of big bales. It had been a very windy night when they took it, and the trailer was flat-fronted, so we think they found it a PITA to tow and stashed it to come back later. Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky with my lorry when that went!

So glad it has been found.
When my trailer was brand new - I kept it in my front garden with a Lionweld Kennedy wheel lock - but one night someone tried to take it. Unfortunately for them - I lived in a bungalow - with a window open - and my German Shepherd Tara - jumped out of the window and chased the would-be thief up the road. They never actually tried for it again. |

Glad to hear it's been found!
I lost one 18 months ago and got it back following a tip-off, strangely, although I was so pleased to have it back initially I never felt able to use it again and sold it six months later.
Jillandlomond, that's what must have happened to our wheel clamp as we found the clamp a few months ago, in undergrowth, still locked and pretty much undamaged! Hope your warning will help others as I hadn't even considered that could happen until we found the clamp. |
