Hi.Any info wanted on methyar(Mika) now13 yr old grey 15.2 mare. Her sire passem lotois. Dam, saltiki. I had her as a safe sound fun/farm ride, which have found out she is not. Perfect in every way on the ground but very nurvous when riding her ESP in traffic, will not hack out alone. Such a gorgeous mare, thinking of breeding her but can not fine info on colourings on her parents. I got stung by dealers who had her for 5 weeks. Luckily I managed to trace her owner who had her for the past 4 yrs. Who has been a great help and been to see her in her new home. Any info would be greatly appreciated. And also how to help rehabilitate her so she can lead a normal life. Many thanks vicks xx

Methyar was a former race horse (won and placed) and reprsents some great arab race breeding, sire Passem Lotois won French Derby and the dam is American lines and from the successful Tiki family. Should breed very nice race or endurance stock. Some former race horses are nervous as used to only being trained up and down a gallop, so they lack confidence on their own, at her age probably a bit late to re-educate significantly. |

Vikki I know this sounds a bit mad but have you tried contacting any of the thourghbred racehorse rehabilliation charities for advice? They might be able to give you support with retraining her. I do feel for you as I remember seeing her advertised by the people who had her for 4 years when I was looking for a new horse, there's was a very honest ad so its a shame some one did you like this. I hope it goes well for her. |

I have an ex raced Mare. I was told of some awful things she did when ridden. So, for many years she wasn't, and when someone tried, she bolted and was yet again branded as crazy.
She is now a safe happy hacker, very trustworthy. She won't hack alone thou, but that was my fault, I got that bit wrong. I think I could change it, but I just live with it.
She became a Safe Happy hacker at the age of 17, so its possible, very possible. |

When our Arabs were racing they also took part in other evenst such as endurance and show jumping. Drongo won his first Jumping Derby the day after finishing 3rd in a big sprint race at Kempton. Because racehorses are regularly ridden, shod, travelled etc. they often make a very straight forward horse when they retire. There are many ex Arab racehorses competing very successfully in endurance. |
