Thanks, everyone. Chips really is a very special, trusting, loving, honest little chap and i am over the moon with him. I really must rein myself in as it would be so easy to do too much too soon so I'll just reinforce this for a while rather than trying to do any more; he is only 3 and a half, this was only the third time I'd been on him and there is absolutely no rush.
I believe it shows the value of doing lots of in-hand education incrementally from a yearling - nothing has been too much for him as little things have been added in over time and this is just the next step!

Lovely to witness his gentle progression from friend to riding partner. I love the relaxed image you both portray in the photo. I have stolen it for my AL folder.
Walk and ride is the next step. I am sure that is what you are planning. Take him for a walk, rifde a bit, lead a bit but get off before any problems and get on where he feels confident. |

Yes, Quarabian, that's what I'll do when he's a bit more confident; he knows all the local routes well from his in- hand walks so I'll ride & walk, initially with one of his buddies either in hand or ridden.
