can someone remind me the difference between a horse that is a clone and a horse that is a sibling from the same dam and sire. (sorry didn't do much schooling)

A clone will be a genetic copy of one animal a physical compete replica. Where as two foals that are siblings will purely share the same parental DNA strains.

As far as I understand (someone may well correct me)

I don't think there has been much success with cloning. The show jumper ET was the last horse I read about who they were investigating cloning.

Personally I see it as a waste of time, while you might have the same genetic make up you won't have the same personality which at the end of the day is what makes a successful horse successful (lol or not!)

Ha ha just shows what I know about it's success, he is a news story about cloned horses (show jumpers) being able to compete in the Olympics.

I do remember there being a story about the first successful cloned animal (dolly the sheep) and her accelerated ageing?

Yes thats what promted my read about it in Nag and Mutt the other week? All very odd, guess even if the horse is a clone you would have to replicate it's training etc to get identical results?

The clone will never be the same horse as far as temperament and ability is concerned (he may be better!!). The only real reasons for doing it is to get his genes so he can produce offspring. Thats all you would get if you used any stallion, you are not guaranteed a superstar. Its interesting that foals have been lost by this procedure (maybe they would have anyway??) and my vet told me that the new IVF for mares/stallions available now involving removing an egg and injecting one sperm into it to produce a foal (not the same as ET) has produced deformed/weakly specimins in some cases. Its obvious that sperm/egg was not intended to do its job. But thats changing the subject lol. I'm waffling again...............
