Your horse looks like a nice sort, best to go to a show and have a bit of fun, that's what I am doing this Sunday. I haven't shown a horse for 25 odd years and the running will either kill me or my body will give me a black eye. I am also going to have a go at a ridden class, horse has only been broken since the new year and I haven,t done any schooling, so that will be fun. |

Practice trotting him on a loose rein. The problem most amateur showers have is that they don't get their horses going on a loose rein, so the horse's head gets pulled round to the left. This means that a) the horse can't trot out to its best ability, and b) that the judge can't see the head.
Also, don't think you have to copy what some of the 'professionals' do - you don't need a whip the length of the M1, an ordinary dressage whip will be fine to teach your horse his cues. And you don't want your horse looking tense and frightened - standing nicely alert but happy is the thing to aim for. Remember also no make-up apart from clear highlighter on the face, and nothing on the feet except a little vaseline to make them gleam.

Also, just a reminder that Arabs must NOT have their whiskers (nose or eye) trimmed off, unlike most show breeds, and that you should not trim *inside* the ear. Trimming off the excess when the ear is held closed in the hand is fine, just don't go inside

Thank you so much, no i wouldnt trim his whiskers off anyway i think its just mean, lol He does trot nicely next to me with no rope at all but think he may be abit more excited at a show lol
Unfortunatly i dont know his breeding... all his info was promised to me when i bought him but he was a complete mess, all his bones were sticking out all over the place, seems that he has been not very well looked after at all but such a genuine boy....
I am actualy now trying to track down his breeders but feel it mite be a complete waste of time unless someone recognises his markings i havent got a hope in hell really :( |
