Does anyone else have problems with static ?? I find that I get it..usually when taking Laddies rugs off...it is quite unnerving for me - and poor him....last night I touched him just a second or so after taking it off and got quite sharp tingle. I have never noticed this before now, do you think it is something to do with the cold weather??? Now I am clutching at straws. It has only happened this past week.
He is now quite definitely a bit jumpy (sorry about the pun) when I change rugs.
The outdoor rug is an Amigo Medium and his stable rug a Rambo Newmarket.

I have noticed it on and off over the years with different horses. It seems to happen mostly to me and my horse when the weather is very cold, like right now 
Last night the bottom of Kes's mane on his withers was stuck up in prongs, it had a charge to it and I was reluctant to put a rug on a for a while. Quite often when I am taking a stable rug off there will be an audible 'snap' as it leaves the horse's body. |

| I have that problem with mine, I used to wonder why he always wanted to take off, when I remove a rug now I put the palm of my hand firmly against his shoulder and though there is still a tingle it's not so strong |

| I also get shocks off of cars in the Summer when very hot. As Complete Novice said above, it does help to kind of earth if that is right expression here? When I get out of a car I have to put my hand on the car body before I can touch the door to close it. |

Very dry cold air is conducive to static - so too are the artificial fabrics most rugs are made of! It may just be 'one of those things' that you have to live with for a few days. I've had the same experience in weather like this, but it does go eventually!

| I have always had lots of electric shocks off things, maybe due to having long hair, from cars/filing cabinets/shopping trolleys/daughter! etc etc, I have to make sure to wear cotton when I am grooming as my poor Tammy got electric shocks off me when I was brushing her and she got so upset she wouldnt talk to me. That has never happened with any other horses though. In summer get static off the fly sheets when taking them off but no problem with outdoor rugs so assume its the nylon. |

| This happens to me as well at this time of year. It seems to be when my hand are particularly dry (which they always are at this time of year), sometimes I can almost feel it's going to happen and i'm afraid to touch the horses. I bought a wooden handled brush last year with bristle which I find helps. |

Funny you should mention this- I was incredibly static yesterday! My cardigan crackled as I took it off, and everything was clinging to me- I looked like I had the power of levitation with my scarf! Luckily I've avoided giving Goldie a shock so far, I tend to touch wood (literally) if I feel I might give him a shock, and this seems to work. I do remember giving my last horse a static shock once, the look of shock on his face made me feel awful, but he forgave me  |

Only certain rugs get me...fly sheets are horrendous & often result in startled pony + evil glare "What was THAT for!?!"
Try giving them a good wipe over with a tumble dryer sheet before you rug up  |
