Hey guys as most of you know i lost my lovely Mouse on Tuesday, he was cremated on Wednesday afternoon by the most caring man who treated him with respect and dignity, over seen by my lovely dad.

I have a few horsey friends that have invited me to ride, and help them out. Is it to soon to get back in the saddle? I am worried that if i don't do it soon then i never will, and i know Mouse wouldn't want that.

No it's not too soon.
You were so unlucky to lose Mouse so soon after getting together, I know I was so shocked I had to read it twice and still didn't really take it in,I can't imagine how hard it is but I re-read some of your posts about him and though he's gone he's left a legacy, your confidence.
I feel it would almost be letting him down if you didn't ride and hold on to the confidence he gave you.

Hi Meggie-Lu
So very sorry for your loss.
If you have the opportunity to be around other peoples horses, then I would go for it!!
At the saddest times in my life (and I've had a few) the thing that has helped me most has been spending time with animals - the comfort I get from them is beyond words.
And being around them gave me something to focus on, other than my personal grief.
I've lost several dogs in my lifetime. Always said I'd never put myself through it again, but the longest I went without a dog in my life was 3 weeks. Life just isn't complete without dogs and horses!!
Anyway, if horses are in your blood, you won't have a choice lol
All the best
Philippa x

I would go for it

I have no horse at the moment and really wish i did i found it hard to even talk to any one horsey but it is there deep down. I have clipped a friends horse a few weeks ago which was the 1st time i was hands on again. I hated seeing anyone who might ask how Roxy was but it will pass now i look at someone hacking out and i want to be them the early days i could not even look at a photo with out getting upset and i have been ill but got over that after a shock

But my feeling is if i had to still care for a horse had to turn up each day i would of found it easier so i would say go for it Mouse would understand and it will help you

I agree with the others, go, enjoy yourself, make a habit of it, make it "normal" so it doesnt become a big deal!

Happy riding x

Go for it........you know how horses steal your heart and get under your skin. For me, they are my world. It would feel like a piece of me was missing without them, so get out there for some healing horse therapy!!

I know that Mousr would want you to pick up the pieces and start again; it is a tribute to him, the lasting legacy he has left you.

It was so tragic that you lost Mouse way too soon but he had a good life with you even if it was far too short.

All the best and tell us about your first ride.

Barbara

Go for it. When I lost Autumn Light the only thing that kept me going was looking for another horse, and a month later I had Garnet who stayed with me for 23 years. I was offered rides on other horses while I was waiting for Garnet, and sometimes I would just sit on them and cry because they weren't Autumn. The important thing is to do what you feel you want to do. I can only sympathise and tell you that I understand just how hard things are for you at the moment, but believe me, happier times will come again and you will be able to look back on your lovely memories.
