My beautiful pure bred mare, Zara, aged 20, who has owned me since she was 20 minutes old has a sinister lump on the point of her shoulder. We were hoping it was an abscess but no pus so the vet has just taken a biopsy and we have to wait for 5 or 6 days for the results.
She has been the perfect horse, with me through thick and thin, my friend and willing partner in everything I ever asked her to do. I am trying not to second guess anything but I fear the worst. Any help gratefully received

Fingers crossed for her, lets hope its nothing sinister. My Trakehner mare has an odd lump it came up from nowhere and is about the size of a gobstopper, hasn,t changed shape or grown for about a year now so vets are leaving alone for now, my welsh B mare got one under her chin and after many courses of antibiotics and photos sent to an expert they operated on her and it turned out to be a blocked lymph node. Try not to worry too much , how long till the result is back ? |

Thank you everyone, the lump has appeared swiftly, is large, hot and painful, which was why we (vet and I) thought an abscess most likely. We have to wait 5 - 6 days for results. Going out to see her in a minute and give her her tea if sedation all worn off. |

Fingers crossed for Zara. My PBA has had a lump the size of a marble on his flank for about 16 years, vet says it is a blocked sebaceous gland. It just appeared out of nowhere one day. |

The vet phoned this afternoon and the best news is that the results show that it is not a tumour which is what I and I think he feared. But the sample showed plant material and hair follicles as if there had been a penetrative wound but the only wound she had was the leg injury about 6 weeks before Christmas. It's a puzzle-I still think it has to be connected in some way... Unfortunately because it has caused such a big reaction and is deep lying she has to go to horsepital tomorrow and have it excised under general anaesthetic. As she is 20 I am worried about the anaesthetic - though she is otherwise in good health, so a plea for more prayers please until she is back home and safe. Have just been out to tell her the news and give her a lovely groom, so she probably thinks she's off to a show after 2 years in retirement! |
