Never seen it mentioned on here but does anyone else follow? In particular who watched tonight's episode (with Kleenex)? Carole.

Aw so sad. I have watched Eastenders since the day it started (yeah I know...need to get a life!). Thought tonight was very good as soap dramas goes. Loved Michael French, actally do prefer him as a consultant in 'Casualty'. Poor Patthought she was a brill actress. |

Yep, I have also watched it from the pilot episode back in 1985 (now I feel old). And also do prefer 'Nick Jordan' :) |

I cried buckets :-( I love Eastenders and all the more poingnant for me becuase I lost my lovely brother last month to cancer aged 44 years. Must admit I nearly didnt watch it but in the end I did.
Pat was a huge character and is going to be missed.
And that music they play when someone leaves gets me everytime!!!

Kazzy, so sorry about your brother, story lines such as that must be hard to watch. I too have lost a dear loved one to cancer many years ago :( I agree Pat's character will be very missed. I had a quick look on the net last night and she was the longest serving female cast member (June Brown was in from the beginning but took 4 years off in the 90's). Ian's character is the longest as most of us know who watch it. And yes, the end credit music. I read that that's only the second time that has happened. I think maybe the other time was Pauline? I know they do the 'sad' music ending when someone leaves but this theme is different, if you watched the end credits it was entitled as 'Pat's'. |

Thanks Kes.
They do usually the Julia's theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8bjioRdxYw
But these days they adapt for big characters that leave. They had a *peggy's theme* which was sad aswell.
That Julia's theme is a lovely peice of music and brings alump to my throat anyway.
Eastenders is the only soap I watch I dont watch any others and I like it becuase they are not afraid to tackle Taboo subjects, the only one i really really didnt like was the Baby snatch episodes, not really good that storyline.

I was just looking at that re the theme, you're right, Julia's Theme :) Also, I watch Casualty and Holby as well as EE but they are just once a week. Don't think I would have time for all of the soaps!! I, like many others, did feel uncomfortable with the baby Tommy story. I did think it was a fairly good story line, even if it did make you uncomfortable but they dragged it on too long. I know they got a lot of stick about that and brought closure earlier than was originally written. |

Wow, I am starting to feel really old now when I think how long some of these soaps have been running! I watched EE from the very first episode almost 3 decades ago. I watched Holby almost from the beginning and I have been watching Casualty right from the beginning. May be one of my New Years Resolutions should be 'get a life'!!! or 'get out more'!!! |

I watched EE right from the start aswell, infact the good old fashioned East End people are my favorite people in this country. Love them, proper good old fashioned people that have the time of day for you and dont judge you.

I like the East End also but that's probably because I was brought up around there. I was born in Romford and lived in Canvey Island. Most of my Dad's side of the family are in the east end so I spent a lot of time there as a child. They are very salt of the earth people :) One thing that currently tickles me though is after all the reality programmes we have had recently centred around Essex mainly but incorporating the east end, the amount of friends I have who have suddenly become Essex'd!!! It's really funny listening to people who although they might have been born in the east end have lived here (West Sussex) since a child, suddenly they speak using Essex terminology and accent!!! It's funny, anyway, I digress. |
