The recent discussion on what is suitable for AL and the Tea & Coffee Time led us to a reflection about the different points of view expressed by all the participating members. It is obvious that the issue draws strong feelings and those feelings need be taken into consideration by those of us who have the responsibility for the day to day management of the forums.
All the postings about animal rights were within the forum rules and our belief is that they were made in good faith, or they wouldn't have been allowed. However, the reactions of many members, made public during the discussion that took place over the last few days, show that those posts are not considered suitable for the perceived purpose of the Tea & Coffee Time forum by many members. As it doesn't make sense to pursue a path that is neither beneficial to the forum members who read and to those who post there, we think it should be made clear now that the main purpose of Tea & Coffee Time is not to discuss any serious matters, whatever the subject may be. The forum can be used to discuss a personal situation, such as a disease or condition. However, subjects that are likely to arouse heated discussion or controversy, should be deemed unsuitable for this specific space within AL.
As such, for the time being, we ask that every member has this in mind when posting on Tea & Coffee Time. We probably need a new forum, maybe restricted to logged in members only, where more serious discussions, non horse related, can occur. The decision on this possible forum has not been made yet. Until such decision is made, if anyone has any questions on the suitability of a subject for Tea & Coffee Time, please contact me or one of the moderators before posting.
The discussion that took place regarding graphic images and links also had some references to the desire of a friendly environment on AL. That is a task that belongs to all the members that post and see AL as their own, as well. I will also like to state again that a forum is made by all members, with their choices of what to post, what to reply to and what to read. Each of the members that chose to express an opinion on the path of the forum is invited to take the opportunity to contribute to the pursuit of such path and to contribute as much as possible for that AL that everybody seems to desire - a live, interesting, friendly forum where the Arab horse is the common interest shared by all.
Thank you for your interest in AL and may all of you have a Happy 2012.
