Yesterday I was entertaining my little grand daughters (yes I know, you can't believe I'm old enough to have any!)By singing traditional Christmas carols. I trilled 'Away in a manger' carefully explaining the concept of the manger being used instead of a cot. I taught them to bow their heads solemnly at the 'Jesus' and we did all the actions. 'Silently night' followed, sung an octave lower then unusual, as it always makes my eyes water in the correct key, then 'Once in David's Royal city' And when I got to 'Oh Little town' Mim (aged 3 and a half) pipes up 'Marmar can I sing one, its about a baby?' Mim wasn't blessed with a tuneful voice bless her! Good looking and great at house work but sing? We always encourage her to do colouring in when the singing starts! But feeling charitable, it is Christmas after all, I reluctantly agreed. She stood proudly, tapping her little foot to get the rhythm in her head, she started to chant the odd oooh ahh, intrigued, I listened, wondering what Carol she would know? Something modern and happy clappy from nursery no doubt? Then she began....
oooh oooh Baby! (I didn't instantly recognise the Carol} I want to know ow ow (nothing was springing to mind here) if you'll be my girl? (the penny began to drop) ooo ahhhh! (at this point her little hip began to thrust)
Well really! How we laughed!
