We are waiting blood test results on friday. Nan wanted fish today but only if I had some. She ate 2 bites thats all. Gave her some seaven seas tonic and tried with complan but she fell asleep then crawled to bed on all fours :-( Text from my GP was its clear she is very poorly but we can do nothing til results to know what to do. Obviously we know how to try to keep her hydrated and all but prob best to let her sleep as much as she wants. Im soooooo dreading friday. Not sure if I want my sister there or not, Im stronger alone! one sorry look and Im a wreck! but this is for nan, we let her decide :-) My, Nan Said `Don (our Dr) Im so weak and feel hit so hard because I was so active, I have no strength but in my eyes to look at my grand/great grand kids` I almost lost it! I seriously bruised my skin nipping my leg to take away the sorrow. Thanks for being here everyone xxx |

If you get a tin of beef consomme soup and a packet of Philadelphia cheese chuck them in a blender then pour into ramekin dishes, let them set in the fridge, this is so easy to eat with a spoon and slips down a treat, it is very nourishing and full of protein . It was all I ate for three weeks when I was seriously ill a few years ago. It will keep her going for a while . |

Update - Urgent call to take nan to hospital (after blood tests) We had to literally force poor nan to wash, clothes, teeth, hair , makeup.... believe me, she wasnt leaving the house in her PJ`s! She shouldnt stand daylight! luckily my car has black windows. On arrival at hospital were told to go through A&E as there was a strike of somesort in addmissions. A lot of DR`s/tests/scans/xrays later nan was fading fast and in soooo much pain. They gave her 5 bags of fluid and cathiterised her. No Urine at all! She began to shiver with all the cold fluid dripping into her. Then her nails were turning blue and hands so cold. Plus she started to rattle. Next ccu surgeon told us she is very very poorly, she will have to be in ccu when a bed is free on kidney dialasis and something to raise her BP from a dangerous 70/35. However, right now they will start work using a resuss bay. Poor poor nan, they had to fill her with tubes, neck, hands, arms, groin. In the meantime my drunken mother turns up at 10.30pm. Oh my heart sank, if nan saw her crying and being stupid it would affect her greatly. As mum and sister dont talk it was up to me to have strong words with her. Luckily things went ok-ish. 11 hrs down the line nan is comfy in ccu. She was in good spirits, her nurse is wonderful and my nan says `oh I can still do the lady, look I have 3 handsome DR`s and a lovely nurse`. :-) On this point we left them to finish hooking her up and start dialisis, then she could finally sleep. Of course we know she her body is controlled by machines now but her mind is in a better place and so is she. To be on a morbid note if she passes away in ccu its the best way, she has all the meds to take away and pain. However, we never know she may spring back. We await further test results for the cause of all this. My stubborn Nan, if only she had shared her problems long ago, she was simply to proud/scared. |

She is definitely in the right place now, and so good that she has accepted it so well - fingers crossed she responds well to treatment and bounces back. Hope you get a proper diagnosis asap. Take care of yourselves as well as your Nan. |

Oh Justine, I'm so sorry your nan got to feeling so bad. As you say though, she is now feeling much better in herself, which is the main thing. I tend to think that mental health is more important than physical health. Of course, each can affect the other, but it sounds as though your nan, in feeling better physically, is far better mentally.
Hugs, and please keep us posted. xx

off again to hospital, horses and dogs done early. Sorry they have to take a back seat for a while but I will make it up to them :) Problem for me, visiting time on ICU is when meds are done are DR is gone. I need to know! Im waiting for an absolution! Dr`s think relatives just go with the flow. Not me! Im clued up ( as most people are) I want to know! I ask why? how? when? Sounds stupid but having animals we learn a lot about illness/meds etc plus having recently sister-in-law die from cancer. I do understand Doctors are not god. However, I could have told them 48hrs ago my nan was at deaths door! yesterday she told me she was going and was afraid. This is broke my heart. However, she knows we saved her. I love my little nan xxx |

Hope things improve for your nan. It's heartbreaking but it's good that she is still with you and hopefully as pain free as she can be. |

Oh goodness, just caught up with this thread. I hope your nan starts to rally now she's on meds etc to give her the "oomph" to start fighting.

Just caught up with this - hopefully things will go on better now your Nan is in hospital and they can tackle the dehydration problem which will have tended to make everything else more severe than it might otherwise have been. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Nans bloods came back worse today :( Tomorrow she will have a blood transfusion and back on dialysis. Monday she will have a kidney biopsy. What terrible things for her to have to go through at her age, my heart is breaking for her.

Stay strong and keep posting, (if you want) because our thoughts are with you and your nan. Sometimes our animals have to come second, but they don't mind. X |
