Whilst i miss Trudy cat and most likely will forever, i feel ready to provide my lap and love to another feline BUT i am not sure how my other cat will react, she does not seem at all bothered about Trudy not coming home,I am her third home her first two being where she was bred then at year old moved to anther breeder,so she has always been in multi cat households, her needs come first and i would hate to p her off by bringing in a kitten. What would you do? If you did would you seperate or just get on with it??? I had a stray come into the house last summer he used to come in have an eat then stretch out in the hall for a nap, Fiti was not at all worried by him?

i have 6 cats all bar one a stray, they are house cats due to main road, i didnt separate them just let them all sort each other out, they all love each other after just a few weeks and have been known to have all 6 asleep on the bed when i come home from work, which is a lovely sight. i have 4 girls and 2 boys.ages range from approx age 2 to age 7 |

Sounds like heaven, if i didn't have a husband i would love to go to sleep at night to the sound of content purring instead of snores |

Cats will sort it out for themselves angelarab. No matter how you try to think ahead they will have their own way of dealing with a new arrival. But I always think a kitten would fit in better than another adult. You might remember that NatH has kittens born to her stray persian. I am hoping to have one. perhaps you should pm her. |

Agree with Quarabian a kitten would be easier to fit in.By the way she reacted (or should I say she didn't)to the stray coming in i think you are on the safe side.Just be careful,it will be easy with a lovely new kitten to make her jealous,so just always make her feel she's number one. |

I would think that its always easier to introduce kittens rather than older cats. |

I would say introduce a kitten; I have introduced adult cats before (when I took in Gwen, the v. old stray) but because she was deaf and doddery & kept herself to herself the others could easily keep out of her way.
I've had my babies since the end of September and Bodie & Marple treated them as family from the second week, Grace still swears but has started to eat next to them without disappearing through the cat-flap if they look at her - and will now sniff noses, and Hetty (who has always wanted to be an only child) will come in if they're not galloping around, sounding like fairy-elephants!
Quarabian, how lovely that you might(?) have one of NatH's kittens....go on, Angelarab, have a pretty Persian kitten!

I agree about the kitten, when we bought our British Shorthair she was 14 weeks old and she was a bit more set in her ways and my older cat Thomas took a week before he would come back in the house, hes still not happy with her and its a year later, if i had brought a 8week old kitten in i think it would not of been as upity with poor Thomas and he would of accepted it better. I would love another cat so we have decided to breed from our BS in the hope that if they are born here my Thomas will get used to them from birth, well thats what we hope anyway |

certainly I would say a kitten. I have a new little one from Applause - as sadly our last one lost her life due to the Vet !!!. My two adult cats are quite good - particularly one of them - as she cleans young Emily - until Em has had enough and attacks her. The other cat just swears and ambles off - but then she swears at her sister anyway. Picture of Emily relaxing in the warm. |

Introducing any new cat can be a success, check out FAB website for tips. The main thing is not to force the issue, keeping them separate but within sight of each other, making space for each cat to eat, drink, toilet and sleep. Ensuring that they have a retreat (possibly on a shelf) so that they can have some privacy etc. It is unusual for unrelated cats to be best friends but in the right circumstances life should be sweet. Don't be tempted to bring another cat into the house if your current cat is at all stressy. It might be easier to introduce two litter-mates, as they will be less likely to pester your older cat and she can choose to interact with them (or not). |
