Storm is tucked up in his stable tonight cos hes really lame in his near hind. Went to take his rug off today and realised his fetlock was huge and he was resting it. He looks very stiff and sore when hes walking (very slow). If I turn him towards me, he wont put any weight on that leg at all.
Theres no squashy or bony swelling its a hard fluid type swelling like a horse thats been standing in all night.
In spring time I brought him in one day with his off hind fetlock swollen in identical to this time but there was no pain on touch or lameness. It went away after 2 days but reappeared 6 weeks later the exact same, again going down after 3 days.
Do you think its related? Do you reckon it could be a growth problem? (my worst nightmare, I lost Velvs foal to OCD). I wondered if it could be epiphysitis?
I now vets will say to box rest him for a week anyway so there isnt any point in calling them tomorrow. If its still swollen and sore tomorrow Ill start cold hosing, bandaging and give him some of Velvs danilon to see if thatl bring it down. If no better by monday, Ill call the vets.

I would call the vet tomorrow if hes really sore just in case theres something he or she can do, and if nothing else for the bute/danilon. I know it feels like a wasted call out fee if the vet says 'give him ten days off work' but sort of worth the peace of mind.
Hope hes better very soon

I would also start cold hosing immediately, that won't hurt and may reduce swelling. Is it warm/hot at touch?

Well today he wasnt near as lame. He was walking alot better and able to put weight on it, still obv lame in trot. I did notice he had a cracked heel so Ive given it a hibiscrub etc just incase this is whats caused it but I dont really think so.
His pastern area wasnt as swollen, it had gone further up his leg. After a short walk the swelling did come down a little. I did cold hose it.
Heat wise, not as warm as yesterday and only a little more than the other leg.
Noticed today that hes also thrown a massive splint just above his off fore fetlock.
He has shot up so Im wondering if this is all to do with him having a growth spurt and the growth plates are a bit inflamed. I gave him a danilon in his dinner tonight to see if the anti-inflammatories in that help a bit. Will review tomorrow but he def seemed happier and prob would of been quite happy to go out with his chums again but Im afraid thats a no no just yet.
