Why would black hooves turn white? (not rasped down to the white, growing in white from coronet)
Pretty healthy hooves but losing pigment... weird one!

No idea, but I had a filly (now three yr old) that had particoloured hooves as a foal, and I registered her as such (even white markings on legs corresponding), the hooves turned black!! Had to get the registration changed

I've noticed the new part of the hooves(new growth from the coronet)is often whitish, and it grows darker as it gets older and goes"down",could it be the case?or is the whole hoof turning white?

It's the whole hoof - formerly blue black and now ivory/white - still tough feet though. Quite streaky at the moment as some areas are still black, though not as dark. They are old horses, so maybe it's like greying around head etc? Very sprightly shiny horses, just look like someone's swapped their feet for new ones!

I don't know - is it like me getting out the white stilettos when I'm a bit short of money? (Chance would be a fine thing, either of getting the shoes on or of making any money ).

I wonder if it as an ageing thing a bit like human hair colour changing with age so we all end up grey haired...... Unless of course you dye it.

Colour /pigmentation has nothing to do with strength of the hoof that is a very old much believed old wives tail....

That's what I was thinking too - if they were suddenly deficient in something it would affect the quality of the hoof and rate of growth, and would be seen in everyone else on same regime. But their hooves are entirely normal for them - certainly seem to be propelling their bodies around at tope speed ok anyway!!
