We have thought from time to time of getting an older horse that needs a new home and by chance I saw this, we had spoken only a couple of days previously about the mare that Pheebs has become friends with but felt that though it might be nice to offer a home being at the other end of the country really wasn't best for her.
Well the short version is I had a really long chat Friday with Silky's owner and went to see her today, she is lovely and so tiny compared to my two who are 15.3and she is coming to join us in the next couple of weeks.
I only ever wanted one horse lol.
We've now got a and a and a

Edited to say
This is the thread I read and currently Silky is only about 15 mins away it won't be difficult for her old owner to come and visit once she is ours.

This is very hard for me, please be kind
I took on this little mare, whose owners had abandoned her, virtually, at my previous livery yard. She had been 'cared for' by several previous liveries for a short while, but spent most of 7 years + stuck in a field in all weathers.
Anyway, I had a sort of loan agreement with the owners, but when things got tough for me I contacted them, saying I would like to end the loan. They then paid her livery for six months, I carried on looking after her and feeding her. When I moved yards, the owners were happy for her to come with me and continued to pay her livery.
In November last year this stopped. I have phoned, texted, emailed and FB messaged, telling them I cannot afford to pay all, they kept fobbing me off. Finally they told me to "get rid of her then, sell her, give her away, whatever" (Nice people!! ) I was so incensed by this that I told them not to contact me again, she was my responsibility now, she was going nowhere. They said fine, and that was the end of the matter. I have not heard from them since, I know I won't, ever. They couldn't give a sh*t!
Trouble is, I am struggling. I have Blaze and Jasmine to think of, my partner has been permanently disabled following a fall from a ladder, breaking his back in three places. He can no longer work.
My 22 year old son, bless him, has been helping us out financially and I am working all the night shifts I can, as a carer with the elderly. I cannot justify keeping three horses while my family struggles. It may even come to the point where I have to sell my Jas, which would break my heart.
But I honestly need to find little Silky a new home, as a companion. Silky is 14hh, chestnut 3/4 Arab 1/4 Welsh, she is 21, totally fit and well, very good doer, lives out 24/7 in a herd of 5 at the moment. She is an absolute sweetie, very cuddly and has been a fab nanny to Jas. She is barefoot (has been all her life) and has no health issues.
Please understand, I am not just desperate to get rid. She will only go to a lovely long term home and if I don't find anyone then I will just have to suck it up and shoulder my responsibility to her.
But if there is anyone out there who could possibly help us, I would be very grateful. I would not ask any money for her, she came to me for nothing, maybe a donation to a horse charity?
I feel so awful

Sorry Pheebs when I read it back it made no sense at all to me and I wrote it . we are about to take Silky on as the current owner can no longer afford her, the section at the bottom was the post I read and just thought fate had played a part as the current owner wanted if possible to stay in touch from time to time.

Well done you I'm glad Silky will have a forever home now.

I have a welsh x arab although the % is the other way round (75% welsh and 25% Arab). Think i'd have preferred her the other way round... (i love her really)

Good luck with her and post some pictures soon.

Silky arrived this afternoon and seems to have settled really well, unfortunately OH had the camera and 'forgot' how to use it so the photo was taken quite late in the evening.
