Inky is on a behaviour chart and she got a shiny star sticker today. Took her out a solo in hand walk preparing her for hacks and I made it back alive and without a bruise!
Took Polka a hack she learned how to stand to allow me to open a very tricky gate which I usually dismount for.
I bought Po a soft nose net and it's been a god send! I can now do my version of long reining her without the constant domestics because she keeps stopping and grabbing at anything green.
Well we didn't manage the gate today so I had to dismount. This was us walking down to the gate that I can stand on to get back on. Polka is just ickle and I could easily get on from the ground but not good for a treeless and I've always used a block. It has it's good points having to get off to do gates as she's brilliant at standing at gates, fences and walls etc for me to get back on
Well that's what I get for saying I had a great day yesterday. Inka was a nightmare today. Was tired so I took her a shorter walk but it was new. Sometimes if she is out her comfort zone she loses the plot and I'm lucky to get back alive. Barging so bad she nearly knocks me off my feet, spinning and kicking out to get turned towards home. Phew! No bruises today either but I did narrowly miss a kick that meant to hurt. She's so contrary and hard work. I feel like I've been in a No sticker for her today. She's still free to good home
I know what you mean about the getting on with a treeless or a wide horse that the saddle slips on. Don't forget it is better for her back to get on from a block or gate so you are forgiven. I am toying with the idea of training mine to bow so that I can get on bareback. Watch this space.
Glad you had a good day, even if it was followed up by a less good day.
