I think AL should improve the way members are able to upload their pic's . The current method is not user friendly and I have seen a decline in pic's being shown ..People like to see pic's ..

I was the world's worse at this techno stuff. I still have trouble getting photos onto flickr, but the AL side of it is really easy once you get the hang of it. Rui is absolutely brilliant at helping with this stuff. Come on, give it another go. |

I agree, it's not the easiest to do compared to some well known websites but once you have done it a couple of times it's not so bad. Rui is a great help and did my sig pics for me after my pleas for help, under his posts are the links for tuturials (I think) for posting pics if you get stuck and need help. |

We may eventually consider a different way to upload or otherwise use pictures posted elsewhere. Meanwhile, other than sites who may have a direct interface with flickr, I don't think using flickr images can be much easier than the tool we have explicitly developed after flickr made it harder to use their pictures in forums. It's a copy and paste thing and many, many users use it successfully. Photobucket is also easy to use.
I agree it could be made easier, but that would require that we store all images uploaded by the users. For several reasons, we are not yet ready to do that.
I am always available to help with anything related to the forum, as some members kindly remarked. Be it images, video, or anything else, please feel free to send me a PM and I will be glad to help. Just let me know and a PM is always better than a request in a post, as I don't always have the opportunity to read all the posts made in the forum.
Thanks . |

Oh goodness, I think it's a bit unfair saying AL isn't "user friendly" for photos. I use Photobucket, have two tabs open i.e. Photobucket and AL, use the "direct link" on Photobucket (which copies automatically), switch to the AL tab, click on the "insert Image" icon (third from the right on the top line of AL icons) on the Format: line, click "Edit" on the main toolbar and then "Paste" between the [img][/img] commands and Bob's your uncle!

Rui, is there a way to upload from iPhone/iPad etc without having to use flikr or similar? ... So I dont have to fill other laptops with my photos? Thanks x |

It's even easier that that Click on the photobucket IMG Code, it auto copies, then right click in your post here, select paste, Simples! |

I wouldnt say its not user friendly I would say its really fidgety, which I could do without. Its a bit annoying that if I want to post a pic, I have to upload it onto photobucket or flickr, THEN go through a bit of a rigmaroll to put it on here. It would be much easier, quicker and less hassle if you could just select a browse button and upload it directly off your hard drive. I dont want to have to go through flickr etc. I dont post many pics because I cant be bothered with it tbh. Sab2..Im also now an apple convert and Im still figuring things out on it. Didnt think it would be soo different, but it is superior and faster! |

I agree with Caryn and think you are being unfair to AL who provide this forum FREE for you to use! I am not aware of any other free forum where you can post pics directly from your PC |

Just making a suggestion, other than the photo thing I do think this is a good forum. I use another forum that I can upload directly from my hard drive and it is free to use. |

This site is wonderful and when I said " User Friendly " I simply meant the uploading of pic's , its no good using words like annoying fidgety etc , as these are all exactly what I meant . Rui thanks for agreeing that things could be made simplar , nice that your always on hand to help us older ones lol . I may just try the photo bucket option , if it works then fine , its just uploading to one site in order to get on this site that is a bit of a pain .... |

Chris,
There are technical and cost reasons for the current situation, too. We pay for our hosting and we use Windows servers. These servers are costlier than other server types and the difference in the storage space available at a reasonable cost is nothing but staggering.
I will address this situation in the future, that's for sure. I will address it not only for the ease of use, but also to allow better access to your own pictures, posted on the forum, over the years. Right now you post them then and they are simply "gone", as they are then nothing more than a small part of a post. That is a thing that I have thought about for a long time. There are no easy technical solutions for this, but I am committed to find a suitable one. If and when we do both, then we will beat most forums on it, free or paid . |

Hee hee, thanks Pasha - I see what you mean about using the IMG code (it's only just sunk in since I've read Rui's post which has a screen dump of the Photobucket screen).....I'll be able to post photos a nanosecond quicker now!
