We are looking to re-home one of our super brood bitches to retire as a pet/farm dog.
She is 3.5 yrs old and has bred 2 outstanding litters for us. We have retained her son as our stud dog.
Pearl is a very gentle lady and loves kids. She is used to outdoor life with other dogs but would easily settle to be a well deserved fireside pet.
We preferably like Pearl to go to a home of friends or at least friends of friends whom we can stay in touch. She has been a very important part of our breeding program and will be very much missed as part of our kennels.
We are located in Doncaster, South yorkshire. Movida Labradors.

Hope you have found a lovely home for your girl.
Zan at least Justine is taking the time to try and to find a loving home for her girl, a lot of the breeders just PTS. |

What is it with you Zan. I might even have put money on you answering this post in that negative manner. I'm with sab2 and Callisto. Sometimes rehoming an ex brood bitch is kinder than keeping them. We have not heard the full details, yet you feel the need to judge.

My very happy contented bitches live in my yard in luxury kennels. They are all cared for like royalty.
I dont even breed them to max KC litter numbers.
I feel when the time is right and this one has had 2 large outstanding litters that she deserves a pet home laying on a big rug in front of a loving persons fire.
Of course I could do this for her and will if no one wants her, but it would be lovely if an ex broodbitch (still young, fit and show worthy) can have a one to one relationship.
I am far from the heartless person you think I may be! |

She is yellow (pale). Her name is Rocheby copper pearl, the Rocheby kennels are known worldwide and are husband/wife judges for 30plus years and are wonderful kind people. They also have horses, so we come from the same animal loving world.
You can check them out if you google Rocheby to see the stamp of labs we have (all ours are Rocheby). Or send facebook friend request to me Justine Bassindale, and see my pic`s. (need to know your facebook name though so I can accept you).

| No need to check out Rocheby Justine. My lab was Rocheby bred. Marion bred some lovely dogs. We called her Cincerity of Toftslain, by name and by nature, but it was all Rocheby behind her. Will pm you later after I speak to hubby. |

Good luck rehoming the little yellow girl.
we have two Labs both mainly Rocheby a black bitch and a yellow dog. I am not going to show this to OH as he is itching to get a yellow bitch.........but I think with our two and a Border Terrier we have enough already! |

Think I found a home 
I take puppies back that I have bred for holidays. I took this morning one pup (now 2) for 6 weeks, she is out of Pearls litter sister. The owner is sure he can sweetalk his wife over the holidays to have Pearl .
I have a job of teaching his bitch to retrieve in water, Pearl will show her the ropes, hopefully they will make a great working pair and best friends.
The stray labrador has also found a lovely home |

Hi Delyth, the people who might have Pearl are away for 6 weeks.
Your very welcome to her if you like. They could say no after 6 weeks who knows!
The stray leaves in 2 weeks, someone that actually saw him wandering asked if he could have him after his holidays, nice home with kids, will be perfect. |

What is it with me? I happen to believe that we, as humans, should not make use of other sentient beings as a means to an end, whether financial or a breeding programme, or anything else, and then pass them on. The Dog's Trust's famous slogan--"A dog is for life,not just for Christmas" is well known, and strikes a chord with every caring pet owner. What about " A dog is for life, not just till you have bred the puppies you want from her"??? I really don't see the difference.
Sab2 " a lot of breedrs just PTS" ---such "breeders" are beneath contempt, and are the dregs of the earth---because this goes on does not make rehoming a brood bitch when you are finished with her instead of killing her right. I have come across many breeders in my lifetime, and the only ones I have any respect for are the ones who have their brood bitches lying in front of their own fires for the rest of their lives. These paragons do exist, but they are far too few.

Zan - your entitled to your opinion.
When I chose to give a dog away its one I know will settle into anyones life.
I have a very special bitch who I and my kennel partner paid a LOT of money for. She had been sold to someone in Scotland and abused. She was seen in a show shaking with fear in front of the judge. Her breeder immediatly bought her back. I fell in love with this bitch and I was allowed to buy her. I got her confidence back and waited to see if she would breed. Nope, not a chance, barren! She will never be re-homed, she will stay with me til the day she dies. I could not mess her brain up again.
I also have a rescue pointer and JR.
Dog breeders are not all bad, we do things for the best!
Im the same with my horses. I have a colt at the moment, he is not pretty enough to stay in my breeding program. However, he is very correct and has a neck like a swan. He will be offered to a loving home on the understanding he is castrated. He will be a beautiful gelding and someones best friend. This colt stands me at a lot of money but I am doing the best for him and this is because I love my aniamls.
Have I ever made a penny from horses or dogs? NO!
I worry about each puppy/foal I sell.
Yes I could stop breeding and take in rescue horses and dogs but Im a breeder with goals. I want to create the horse/dog of my dreams.

I can see Zan's point, but I am also aligned with Justine because I breed too and can be tarred with the same brush. I take great care where my puppies go and I am constantly on call if the new owners need help or advice. I am sure Justine does the same. During the time I was showing my dogs were consistently best of breed, but the most important thing was to breed for their good temperaments, after all most show bred puppies go to pet homes.
I was very upset when a rescue centre desperate for foster homes refused to let me offer foster homes because I occassionally breed. I have a special talent for helping nervous or confused dogs and this would have been an asset to the rescue centre. I have rescued dogs privately and also helped show dogs to find their confidence.
It is this kind of blindness that I am cross about. No one is all good or all bad, and there are many ways to love your animals. It would be better to direct some of our anger at the people who think dog fighting is a good sport and the 'real puppy farmers' who will breed anything as long as it makes a profit. Please don't put Justine and me in that category. |

| Oooo I'll definately take her Justine - I'll facebook you :)) Hope she'll muck in here......quite literally after the state Dolly & Phoebe came back in today. Excited now !! I admire anyone who breeds dogs properly. People think it is a quick money making scheme but when you don't abuse the system it is a hell of alot of work, nothing like as profitable as you'd think and bloody hard work !!! I did it once.......that was enough !! |

It is not a case of either or, and, once again, just because greater horrors exist does not excuse lesser ones. I deny absolutely that I am showing any kind of blindness, because I did mention breeders who keep all their brood bitches and give them a good home for life as being worthy of some respect. Responsible ownership should apply to breeders too, and I can only repeat" a dog is for life...." |

So I should give up breeding healthy puppies, spending hours with people on the phone and at my home making sure they are suitable dog owners?
Should I not let an ex show or brood bitch go to a loving home where she will be the only one and loved by the whole family instead of having just a share of me?
Should I give up breeding horses who go on to give other people pleasure at my expense?
I am such a bad person I don't deserve to keep animals, maybe I should put them all in rescue and look after myself for once. With nobody breeding dogs anymore they might need some in rescue to supply the demand.
I know this is an angry rant, I know Zan you are doing good work, but it seems I am more upset than you probably intended. |

| Over my very long years , I breed a litter VERY occasionally, but have to say the mum is always my house pet and best friend first and foremost and is my dog for life. Don't really think of them as show dogs (yes, I do show), never thought of one as a brood bitch, but guess we're all different and that's what makes an interesting debate. |

I just thought I'd bump this up to let everyone know Pearl came to Derbyshire !! Renamed BoBo by the boys for reasons only
known to them she has settled in like she always lived here !!! Even went hunting - unintentionally - on Monday with the Bloodhounds.....luckily they took it in good humour !!!
At Joe's birthday party in August we went to great expense to hire a Jack Sparrow look alike for his pirate themed party....needn't have bothered all the kids were more interested in Pearl and her in them cos they had food !!!! She has the most wonderful,kind, placid temperament - thank you for re-homing her with us Justine :) |

So pleased to hear she has settled well.
This is another reason why I love Arabianlines. People DO actually care about their friends (animals) and want good homes for them, and you can always rely on the good ones to find homes for their friends.
