The topic of the Welsh, as this has been brought up from the beginning. I like Welsh very much, they are clever, kind, can be as hard working as some can be obstinate. The yard I am in has the same problem shared by a lot of the South, grazing is minimal. Of all the horses in our yard of a lot of different breeds as we are a ride and drive yard, 99% of the time it's a Welsh pony or a field of Welsh ponies who have have escaped by trashing a fence. I love post and rail above all fence types but as we have a water course running through the centre of our yard the posts will weaken every so often. I completely agree with everything that has been said so far about toughness and hardiness, in just asking people's opinions I was given pretty much the same replies to what I already believed. Although the riding at -40 did take me back a bit. When you got off did your frozen feet scream at you in pain, I hate that feeling when Winter riding! |

Thanks, I now know, if I can, I can put it on him. Went down a third time today and silly boy was standing near the gate tail to wind, no where near the natural shelter ... but he was calmer, and the rain has stopped. Will check on him first thing and if the weather is still set to be bad, will get that rug on him! |
