There is a possibility we are relocated from manchester - to Andover in Winchester.
We currently feed Haylage up North but I am struggling to find any down South. Does anyone have an idea where I can get the big round bales from and if so how much?
Sorry cant help as I'm in the south east, but 18 months ago I was paying £35 but towards the end of the winter it went to £40 as supplier had to buy in, It's probably neared £50 now
you can sometimes find it listed on ebay. or perhaps look int he yellow pages for feed suppliers in the local area /farmers.
i am further south on the somerset devon border. most arable farmers down here will sel it. not sure on the cost though. I brouhgt cow hay as a last resort this winter as there was such a shortage. that cost me £30.00 per round bale.
I have xs haylage left from the winter about 10 bales. I am willing to sell as should be getting 35 plus this year which will be more then I need. But am also in midlands so you would have to sort out transport.
Thanks for your comments - Marion have pm'd you back - I have found a company that delivers nationwide but the minimum delivery is 40 large bales eek!! I can probably store 40 bales if there is no other option but we will have at least 10 horses to feed so its just not possible to take it with us from Manchester. Dot have PM'd you Thanks again and anyone one else with suggestions - pls keep them coming. Nic x
I have recently run out of our home grown haylege, a local farmer has sold me a large square bale of dry baled silage (approx 8ft bale) for £25. Haylege in everything but the name ... we unwrapped it and opened up the bale to let the air get to it, so it dries out a bit without spoiling whilst the horses get through it. They do quite well on it...I do have a field full of fatties! Maybe worth chatting to a friendly farmer...
