Thinking of arranging one for no-longer-fat Arab who doesn't seem to be able to tolerate much grass but has normal range ACTH and resting insulin & glucose levels (measured on two occasions).

Are the results meaningful enough to be worth the numerous bloods samples and cost?

Is that the loading glucose test?

Pasha had the loading glucose test which came out positive, so he went on Metformin and they made him ill (he was already on Pergolide and Metpirone), so mum stopped them and he's been fine since, touch wood (about a year ago).

The vet has said that Pasha's blood profile is that of a horse that should be crippled with Lami, but he is not and so we are treating the horse, not treating the bloods!

Shesky, had normal ACTH, Insulin and Glucose levels from two different blood tests the year he had Lami. Then at the beginning of this year, he went footy and bloods showed normal ACTH, Glucose and Insulin but the Insulin/Glucose Ratio was off a bit. He is now on Metformin and seems to be doing ok.

I think you have to read the bloods in conjunction with the symptoms the horse is displaying.

The vet wants to run more bloods on Shesky but I don't see the point as he's said he'll always have to have Metformin and I can tell within a few days if somethings not right as when he came out of hospital he stopped eating his tablets and his symptoms started to return i.e. apple bum and fat [ads above his eyes... a few days back on the tablets and they've gone again!

Well the test is arranged. This way, if insulin and glucose are measured as normal again I know to investigate other causes of his symptoms. Also, it might help with dosing decisions.

Now then, any tips how to keep a horse your friend throughout a morning of 16 blood samples?????!
