If you have an arab that is going to grey out from the colour it was born, what would br the oldest age you would expect to see this starting?

Lol, are you worried you've bought a grey rather than a chestnut . I only say that because i think that with one of mine. She's from 2 grey parents, and she has loads of grey hairs, but still is very much a chestnut at 3. I also have another chestnut from one grey and one chestnut parent, and this year at 5 she's got so many grey hairs over her, but i think she'll stay chestnut too. My final arab is most definatly grey at 2 years, though was born bay and has greyed out reletively slowly..... What colour were your girls parents? If one parent was grey there's always a possibility the offspring will grey out. Ros |

I have one that was registered chestnut/grey, but at four he was bay with white in his mane and tail, he's now 20, still bay but the sprinkling of grey through his coat is increasing...do you think there's still time for him to turn? |

My 2 yr old is a bay from 2 grey parents but I'm scared to death that he is going roan !
You can't really see, but all those white hairs are creeping up his chest and neck but NOT HIS HEAD!!!! Grey I would love, bay I would love but NOT ROAN !!

jaj - I doubt very much your boy will turn grey. He is a bay from what I can see. Ive had many bays and chestnuts with white running through. No such thing as a roan, so ya ok :-) Greys are normally born, bay, chestnut (no pink eye rims, privates etc)and black. they always have a very faint hint of grey around their eyes when born, its difficult to see though sometimes. There is no age rule for turning grey but its obvious from day 1-3 it is a grey. Most of my foals which are born bay keep a horrible donkey colour til 4yrs, getting lighter each year til they reach 10! same with chestnuts, however some chestnuts are white within 18 months. Blacks normally take a long time, ie- cas sabur - the stunning champion black with a striking long silver tail.

Just checking as Tilly's parents are both greys.
Her flaxen mane as a fair few white hairs in it and she has the odd whit hair in her coat, but hopefully she will stay chestnut - she'll be 2 in a months time.
But then Cinny has lots of white in her mane and she's 11! |

Looking at her photo I think she will stay chestnut. Here is an example of my sabino chestnut (sorry to bore those I have already shown before!!):
Her dam was grey and her sire is bay!
Sorry Jen but I really think your boy has the sabino gene! I dont like it much either, but we love our babies whatever colour they are dont we!

Raife is supposed to be grey, but at 2 years and 2 months old, he is really taking his time changing!

Gix yes he's certainly in no rush to change is he !
Kate, I love that picture of yours, she's so beautiful! Actually if my chap stays as he is I don't really mind, what I would loathe would be bay legs and head but a muddy white body.
Cinny, Tilly is just gorgeous too .
Yes we do just love them whatever the colour. It always brings to mind that expression 'a good horse is never a bad colour' I bet the person who thought it up had a roan horse !!!!!

He is taking is time isn't he - looks rather charcoal - but def gorgeous!
Whatever colour she ends up doesn't matter - I would either have 2 chestnuts and 1 grey, or 1 chestnut and 2 greys - as long as they are happy healthy girls.....
So the girls at play on their new track this afternoon!

Cinny had just been out 18 miles with me on the Forest, hadher tea. I lost count at at least 7 laps and it's about 1/2km round the whole track.
Glad she'll probably stay chestnut! |
