I brought some naf haylage balancer today to try with deano my new exracehorse. He is a chronic windsucker and always has been I am trying to build him up and doing lots of longreining at mo. I have changed his feed routine slightly, he still gets fed same time as he used to but instead of getting one scoop of feed morn 1 scoop at lunch and 4 at tea time he now gets 2scoops of feed three times a day. and gets one cup of blue chip morn and night. I have noticed that his windsucking during the day is not as bad. He can't suck as his stable has a tingler so he has nothing to grab but before when hi stable door was open he would be impatient to grab the edge of wall to suck. He would have got grumpy to get at it. Now I notice in morn when mucking out he really wants a suck but towards the afternoon when I am brushing him or mucking him out he isn't sucking He is going to wall half attempting to grab wall not sucking then walking away and heading back to his feed or standing with head looking out the door. I can only imagine as he is getting plenty of feed now during the day he isn't clearing it all immediately so picking at it and he is getting as much haylgae as he wants so his stomach would be full and so less acidic. I wanted to get a supplement that would act as an antacid and help coat the stomach when being fed so thought this looked to be the job. So I was wondering if anyone has used it and how should i feed it. He will be getting 3 scoops a day so would i be better giving him one scoop three times a day with each feed or would i be bettter giving him two scoops in morn when he seems worst to coat his tummy for the day and one scoop at night with his final feed. I also got him a bottle of muscle max it was reduced to give him the best chance while I am building him up. He has already put condition on He is also on cortavet in morn. Thanks

Why not ring NAF and ask their advice. Good luck with him.

We feed this as ours get very squitty bottoms when we first start feeding haylage and have been really pleased with the response, although it's not stopped our little pony from cribbing and windsucking

We started by feeding the recommended dose for a couple of weeks and then gradually reduced it until the droppings started getting loose then put it back up to where they were firm and left it at that dose for a few weeks before seeing if we could wean them off or just manage with a small amount. We managed to wean 3 of the 5 off completely and the other 2 have 5mg and 10mg a day each.
