went to my 1st show on sunday in 4 yrs with my boy, where there was a couple of arabs as i stood there getting ready for the class putting some extra standing pratice in a lady caame over and complermented on my boy which was nice and asked about his breeding i replyed with "hes crabbet" she said "only a small percentage i guess" "no.... hes 100%" "you must have his breeding wrong hes too small and fine to be a crabbet"
he is old fashioned i know but wondered if aanyone else has any small fine crabbets mines only 14hh and in the arab class stood next to a lovely 2yr filly and she was the same hight which i thought was funny.

Well my 19 yr old mare is 98% and 14.3hh and quite chunky but there are lots i know which are smaller and finer,i guess it depends on the parentage but i wouldn,t say that it,s unusual.x |

Crabbets have usually got "a leg at each corner"! Roger is quite fine for a Crabbet (he's >90% Crabbet) although he is 15.1hh.

LOL @ Lisa Ditto!! Honey was around 98% crabbet and a whoping 14.1hh Sunny is 94% and at almost 4 he's around 14.2. Caryn, thats how I describe my arabs to those who picture the fine, fragile looking creatures some think of when picturing an Arab |

My sister's gelding when we were teenagers was high percentage crabbet, he was just over 14 hh and very fine. Harlequin is just over 85 percent crabbet and is 15 hh and built like a barrel, a lot of people refused to believe he was a purebred, even in Arab classes - one judge asked me if he was an Arab quarter horse cross..... |

We have a 13.3hh 98% crabbet Mare called Silvern Muna by Silvern Ghaalib out of Grandilla, she is one of a twin so maybe this is why she's sooo tiny. Although we have 2 pure bred fillies from her and one is 14.3hh at 4yrs and the other is 14.3hh at 2yrs! I bought her 6yrs ago always of the intention that my daughter's would eventually go onto arabs and now at 11yrs old my first daughter rides her and is now a true arab convert!!!! I love riding her too she rides like a small horse not a pony, if i can figure Flickr i'll post some pics. We did show her a couple of times and had some nice comments but were told she was too small, does it matter if her conformation and type are correct?

My mare is far from fine, though at 14.1 she is considered short. She never seems short though, and she is every bit arabian. Personally i prefer my arabs on the smaller side . Ros |

My mare is 57% crabbet and 14.3hh. She is compact and stocky. I do find that most of the arabs we see in showing classes are alot taller. |

My 68% Crabbet mare is fine and just 14hh. At 21yrs old she is as good as ever and will be going down to the Golden Horse Shoe to do the 160k class.
My 86% mare is more chunky and 15.1hh

My very best Crabbet Stallion, El Sharluke, was only small (about 14.l.h.h.) and very lightly built. My foundation mare, Shuhira, was slightly bigger and deeper with a leg in each corner; and between them they produced lovely quality Crabbets which put my Stud "on the map". When being shown, Luke used to grow and looked so much taller in the ring. Their grandchildren have all been much taller and more refined; and it is continuing into their great-grand-children e.g. Mastarpiece; Masalla; Musical Moment; and Mastarcraftsman. |

yey i am glad freddie is not a freak of nature :) she was quite rude about it :/ i just shrugged it off. freddie when being shown he looks and rides bigger when judges get up to him i often get "aww hes quite small up close" which i dont mind :) but being told my boys breeding is wrong... :/ |

Your fella is a GIANT at 14 hands... Our pure bred PSA Safeerah is 61% Crabbet and I measured her yesterday at 13h 2". A friend of ours measured her aunt BS Emira on Saturday, who is 17% Crabbet, and she is 15h 3".
Oh, forgot to mention, Safeerah was 9 months old on the 25th.

Yes those words ring in my ears...my Aboudy grand-baby is 4 this year and still only 14hh.....I am sick of her being put down the line because of her height....she has great presence , moves amazingly and has really nice confirmation. So she is going in ridden classes from now on ...hope we don't get any big judges.....

Miska, my 26 year old crabbet/Old English (chesnut in sig) is a petite 14.1hh...I think she is about 80% crabbet. Though at the moment she is sporting a rather round grass belly! |
