I think what he is on sounds good I would just try and introduce an extra feed to increase the amount you are giving him. Plenty of roughage you dont want youngstock to be overly fat and most will be a bit light possibly ribby. would like to see a pic of your baby.

Was it the vet who advised you marquisse or some other well meaning person? Just wondered as sometimes people think youngsters are too thin but often they look lean because they are so busy quickly growing up rather than out.

Could try some soya oil to add condition? Calorific without fizzing up.

Jaj I was going to say the very same, I would give him an extra feed in the day but I think hay is the best thing to put weight on, just give him as much as he can eat.
A new girl moved to our yard a few weeks back with two TB mares one is only two and is ribby but she is so bum high so is obviously growing, she was worried the other liveries would think she wasn't feeding her, I think she had heard someone talking, which if they were just proves they don't have a clue as the horse is just growing and looking a bit ribby is part of it so don't worry too much.

marquisse canyou put a pic up ofher so we can see if she is really needing to fill out youngsters are so hard and like has been said if she is growing fast people may think this but you dont want to put too much weight on a youngster a pic would give a better idea i would agree about adding some oil and more hay would be the best

I found that youngstock mix gave my youngster really horrid smelling droppings and he didn't look as well as I'd liked so I took him off it and replaced it with barley and light mix with sugar beet and readigrass (and a few vits) and he looks much better.

It's funny with youngsters because they look nice and rounded one week then the next week they look all gangly - I wouldn't worry too much. You are obviously feeding him well - he's just using it all up to grow instead of fatten

He looks fine to me his ribs are not showing, I wouldn't worry too much best not to over feed as he is so young you don't want him growing too fast can cause problems too, I would just give him as much hay as he will eat which it sounds like you are if there is some left in the morning, and make sure he has all his vitamins and minerals, its normal for them to look like that, his got a nice kind eye and looks really cute.

nicely bum-high - been there, done that (and still doing it)! I agree, carry on feeding what you're feeding; you don't want to force him and a) bugger his joints/tendons or b) turn him into a little

He looks very nice. Is he a colt or a gelding?

Marquisse - try him on fast fibre cubes as well (allen & Page), he was on them with his other feed as well and always looked good! They are not high protein so won't blow his joints. Feed all my babies on them mixed with other feed and you know how big Parydise and Indy are!!

He looks just fine, certainly not in need of filling out. He looks 'babyfied' because he is a baby, just remind them that he is an arab not a thoroughbred!
