Hi i have 2 grey pure bred arabs. one is a 7 year old mare who was pinkie roan last year but had gone very white all of a sudden with dapples. and my rising 3 year ols is a dark steel grey (just lightened a bit in feb when he was clipped). Just was wondering out of intrest how your grey horses change in colour. Just intrested as i would love to know how long my gelding will stay steel grey? I know his sire is still fairly dark grey? i think he is 5. Thanks Katie x Solli before clip

Lily (bottom left in sig pic) was born chestnut, spent a couple of years being pink and that photo was taken when she was four. |

Isnt it amazing how they dont stay steel grey.
Kayal looks exactly the same colour as my boy. Everyone loves his colour, but i keep saying he wont stay like that, yet no one believes me (non arab horse people,of course ha).
My boy looks a bit like an old man with the greying on his face at the moment, thats the only thing im not keen on, as people think he is old and he is just a baby. BLESS XXXX |

This was Ozzy in 2009 age 4
and then in 2010 age 5
and again in 2011 age 6 (bit blurry..)
He is starting to lighten up on his face quite a bit and on his body he has more white hairs on his right side than the left
I'm dreading the poo and mud stains when he is fully white |

I agree Ozzy's my first grey horse and i love the thought of him changing colour each year. It is like having a new horse
Ozzy's dad was black and Oz was born black (his passport says Black / grey) Don't know what colour his mum was.
He is a grandson of Cas Sabur and i think someone told me he didn't start going grey until he was about 8 years old. |

My friend has a grey arab gelding who was born black and he is now dapple/flea bitten grey. My geldings sire PSY Dream, is quite dark. Solli has a dark body yet like your boy Nichole, his tail is platinum blonde, with black at the top, it looks very striking, when flagged ha xx |

Not arab, but here's my grey boy:
I can't believe he is going to turn white grey...Not sure he will be dapply either. His summer coat is coming through and it's very silvery. I did try and persuade him that he wanted to stay iron grey but not sure it'll work |

I have heard dark greys dont tend to do as well being shown? Has anyone found this? Saying that solitaire has had some great results with Miles Buckley, so am a bit unsure if this is true? xxx |

I'd be surprised if there was any colour bias - very dark greys and blacks are often hard to photograph due to the sheer depth of colour, but in the flesh quality shows through any colour. Angb's boy is 3 and still very dark. He has 3 full siblings, all born liver chestnut whereas he was born sooty. The eldest is still quite dark rusty rose grey, the almost 2yo is lighter than her, and the almost yearling is the lightest of them all! So you never can tell Lovely pics everybody - enjoyed the spectrum on show! |
