My favourite names are
Izentespeshal
& his son
Hespeshal.
My friends Arab was called Jacob...
'Why Jacob?'
'Well, he was bred by a Jewish lady who refused to give him an Arab name...'
With such a sad mentality, she should have had an Arab blood free Zebra or something (may not be correct, there might be arab blood in them a long way back).
Still it made me smile.

My girl Theeda is named after 1920's movie star Theda Bara. Nick named Theeda Bar or Little Red Thing because she was a surviving twin.
Then there's Milagro who gets nick named Nellie or Blunder Woman, you need to know her to understand why ;)
Sibelius ( named after a Finnish composer?) gets a variety of names shouted at him some of them are Sibby & Soufie.
Hey Libby what do you think they were thinking when they thought up the name Ghibli, always make s me think of giblets lol |

we used to call gizzy allsorts, but her main ones were wizzy gizzy, or the indestructable destructable horse She plowed through everything and always came out unharmed with what ever was in her way completely destroyed!! Our first horse honey was named invermist and we named our stud name after her. we used to have a pony called leaps and bounds, we named a tbxid Bramble after the weed lol. We also had an anglo arab called millie meyhem suited her perfect and a chestnut mare sondas flaming feather, sondas as her sire was cr sondas fire by sondas jabask, and she had feathering up her forearms and the further to the hoof the lighter and more golden the chestnut was and reminded you of fire. |

We have 'cider' who gets called cid, ciddy, piddy or poof when he is being really silly. Then we have 'solitaire' who gets called rasta as he has amazing long dreadlocks or monster munch as he is quite naughty. Then 'Africa' who gets called bird as she is a real Essex Bird! Then 'Ozzy' who gets called osmond, oswold or just plain wold....!
Where do we get these silly names from...? |

Sunny is known by everyone on the yard as The Ginger Ninja, suits him perfectly! A lady once called down visiting & was given the guided tour of all the horses by my friends 5yo grandson. They went for horse to horse whilst the small person introduced everyone by name. When they got to Sunnys stable she looked at his nameplate & said "Ah so this must be Sunny?" Small person rolled his eyes tutted & said "Nooo thats The Ginger Ninja!" Poor woman looked awfully confused as we all fell about laughing YO used to call Honey The Demented Prawn...again a very apt & endearing nickname |
