Why don't they have ridden arab classes at royal windsor, they have pretty much every other showing class under the sun, including Lusitano and Andalusians classes!!!

They always used to have both ridden and in-hand classes for arabs at Windsor, but I believe because of the turn out and behaviour of the exhibits they stopped them. |

I don't recall in-hand classes for Arabs at Windsor either and it must be roughly 20 years since the last time I went |

hiya I think it was due to lack of entries??? not sure I will ask a friend of mine who used to show her arabs there (and Ascot) years ago and find out why there are no longer classes...maybe we should start a campaign for next yr Jess! x |

The last time arabs showed at Windsor were was about 10 years ago. Ive written to the committe for the last few years but they were dropped due to lack of entries and for the inhand they suggested the style in which they saw them starting to be exhibited was not what they wanted to promote.
Most people support the regional shows only, the counties of which Royal Windsor is considered, would need a great turnout, sponsorship and many many voices including probably the AHS to get the classes back here.
When I get some time at the weekend I'll see if I can dig out my old correspondance from them. You never know... |

I can understand them not having the inhand... I'm not one for the 'laid back' inhand showing any way so I can understand that, I always try to dress smartly for it as in tweed jacket, shirt tie, black trousers and velvet hat and hair net... but I understand why they wouldn't want that one for the reputation that it has and also that not everyone shares the same opinion of smart...
but the ridden seems a little unfair!!! I don't understand how they can have some strange classes that can't get a great deal of entries and not ridden arabs?!
Sazzlepants, I think I might just
really frustrates me, I'm sure alot of us ridden arab owners would love to ride there and show off our beautiful breed, I'm astonished that they are unwilling to support the breed in ridden classes.... I think the turn out for our pure breds undersaddle is pretty much always exceptional!!!
hmmmm I think a letter is in order... haha |

ha ha I loved your comment jess 'they have a lot of strange classes that dont get many entries' too true!
well, you never know indeed - I think the first question we need to ask is; if the class (ridden) was bought back would you go? I certainly would, but I would be genuinely interested as to who else would enter...... |

I managed after much searching to find a report for a Ridden Arab class in 1998, it was the last class of the show and had such a large entry that it took 2 hours to judge! |

Hi
I seem to remember the last year being the year that got cancelled part the way through the show due to the terrible weather so the Arab class wasnt run and then didnt appear in future years.
However this year they have reintroduced Anglos and Part Breds and it is a Cherif qualifier too!!

I would certainly go yes!!!
So they have introduced anglos put not pure breds
although I think it would be a good trip to go up there and watch to show that there is support for our arab classes
maybe we should have a protest hahahaha hahaha

As with many of our county shows i suspect numbers will be well filled in the anglo/ part bred classes as the horses will already be on site competing as Riding horses and hacks.

Am so disappointed this prestigious show does not hold Arab classes, when so many breeds have the Arab to thank for their quality. I last showed there in 1998 and would def go again if they reinstated.
Nut, was it the dress code that the organisers took issue with? Sorry it wasn't clear from your post if it was they WAY they were shown or what the handlers were wearing.
If it is showing style, surely one would stipulate on the entry that horses should be shown the traditional way only (as I heard these classes were successful at Wessex last year). I personally like the flamboyant way the Arab is shown (when its not scared witless by the handler) however I would certainly show 'traditional' if it meant having the classes reinstated.
They were always well supported when I showed there in the 1990's...In tweed with the compulsory hat!
Must get that letter to the AHS re supporting County Shows!! |

It was not a lack of entries or behaviour of ridden exhibits that caused the cancellation. The one purebred ridden (stallion, mare, gelding combined) class was always well supported often with around 25-30+ horses entered. Royal Windsor went through a new scheduling and quite a few classes we cut not just the ridden arab. The in-hand classes had stopped a few years earlier, this was I believe due to lack of support. It is a shame as it was a lovely show. |
