Some advice, please. Sorry for my ignorance!
Do you have to be a member of AHS to show somewhere like Malvern or the other AHS shows? The horse is registered.
How much are the entry fees for ridden classes?
My horse holds his tail to the right. Vet said he'd be no good for showing. Is this true? Am I wasting my time even thinking about showing?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

you have to be a member of the AHS to exhibit at the Nationals at Malvern and at HOYS. But you don't to show at any of the other shows.

Shows entry fee's vary from show to show with most being in the 15 - 20 but some are upto 30 per class bracket. If you enter HOYS classes you will also have to pay a HOYS levy of 10 (sometimes more) and also buy a HOYS ticket from the AHS at 20 pounds. This is only if you want to qualify for HOYS though.

The fact your horse has a 'wyre' tail doesn't matter at all in Arab classes. It's not frowned on here (it is more frowned on the the USA)

Thanks Louise. So I'm not wasting my time then. What does a "wyre" tail mean & is it a sign of anything? Would we be put down the line? Any idea what causes it? Sorry for all the questions but I'm very new to this.
Thanks again.

Hi

Wyre means held to the side. Not a real problem in the UK. In the USA it's far more frowned upon.
In the scheme of things in a ridden class it really wont be a factor in your horses placing at all.
So no, your not wasting your time - if you and you horse are going well a 'sideways tail' really wont make any real difference!.
Even a judge who really doesn't like them will not drop you far if everything else is right!

Sorry for my ignorance but I always thought it was called a 'wry' tail when it was carried to the side?

Please forgive me if I am wrong

It is I used e on it like some do in the USA or it can be done without the e.
Purely grammatical difference. Same meaning. Held to the side.
Can also be called a 'nicked' tail in the USA.

The way it was spelled in your posts was wyre as in 'wire' not wrye as in 'rye' hence the confusion
