I entered xsara and ollie up for dressage today. Helen rode xsara and I rode ollie it was his first proper competition outing and first time at dressage. It didn't start all well. My alarm never went off and I slept in an hour. woke 7.50 so got out of bed and had to feed the horses at work as my weekend lucky I didn't have to go to far. Went up and lucky ollie and xsara hadn't touched there plaits so never needed touched. We left the yard it 7 degrees but by time we got to near venue it was -1 and very icy, we had a steep twisty hill to go up and lorry got stuck have way up :( so had to reverse a bit till and had another go luckily we just got up it the second time round with a bit of work. Horses warmed up xsara was being a bit of a monkey and not really listening to helen but she did finally manage to get her to her way of thinking and ollie he rode very nicely in the outdoor paddock. called to do our test and one to go. We then noticed he was doing a different test  so sent our friend to double check which one it was to find we had learnt the wrong test  So quickly got a copy helen read through it then gave it too me and went in and rode it fairly well one little mistake which the judge never picked up on lol. rode well but xsara was paying a bit more attention to what was going on around her. It was then ollies turn and I didn't know what to expect but he didn't spook at the boards which was better than I expected, He was a bit confused and tense but was calm and we kept it together, He got mainly 5's with 4's for his walks as he was jogging a bit but he did manage to pick up a 6 for his last trot mark when he relaxed. He got 49% and I was well pleased. Helen and xsara got a score of 62% picking up 6th place well pleased as helen didn't think the test was as good as that as she was concentrating more on trying to rememeber the test than xsara. Here is a couple of pictures hope you enjoy

Lovely photos, well done. Couldnt you get your friend to read you the test? Dont think I could have learned it just before the event, you must have a great memory!

Wow - Ollie is looking like a completely different horse - he's filled out and looks so much more relaxed than when you first got him

Sounds like you had a pretty traumatic day but you always put a positive spin on things and you never blame the horses for any little hiccups and that makes me smile. Well done

Well done - especially learning AND riding a test at no notice at all! Horses look lovely - full marks for tack and turn out! Most impressive!

thanks. templars i know xsara could have done alot better, but i was just remembering the test that i never put much effort into how xsara was riding, i kept waiting on the horn sounding joanne had the advantage as she was after me i only got to read through it and they were waiting on me at that. At least next time we will be more prepared and i will ride xsara a little before it, as its been at least 6 weeks before that i last rode her.
