Salladin is just starting to get a lovely mane (after having it pulled just a couple of weeks before I bought him!)
However, it gets bit short as you go towards his back because the top of his stable rug ripped bits of mane out last year. So any suggestions for a rug that doesn't destroy manes would be greatly appreciated! It must also be very warm, he runs pretty cold and is in a cold stable - last winter he spent most of the time wearing the 400g cosy lavenham (the furry bit at the top ripped bits of mane out) with the lightweight 170g lavenham on underneath.
Rambo Jumbo stable I think it's called now, it sits higher up the neck so doesn't rub and is 550g. I've had them on numerous horses for years and not a single hair lost, they last ages too, currently got two which are over 10 years old which are still as warm as ever
i dont know about anyone else but i always used to put a full neck fleece under the thicker stable rug like a masta full neck or weatherbeeta and i never had a problem with losing the manes ..... p.s he is beautiful!!
Lily's Fal Slumberdown stable rug hasn't rubbed her mane at all
Unlike Lily who curently looks like a Mohican having deliberately removed most of her mane during August..... (apart from the bit where her rug goes and her forelock)
Zahkira (GR Amaretto x Taffetta) Linda East Sussex
i had that problem the bottom half completly went at one point :'( he now lives in his lycra hood, all the time when he is rugged which does the trick ! x
