I know that this is not an Arab Foal arrival BUT I have to say a huge thankyou to Amanda May of Pearl Island Arabians without whom this would be very different outcome.
Last November my Mum bought herself a new horse to potter about on a lovely Ardennes mare. On Monday morning she produced a colt foal, she is an enormous horse and showed no real signs of being with child, so this was a total surprise, the foal was very weak and a panic stricken mum rang me at work, then called the vet, whilst driving at 90mph to get home I called Amanda, we all arrived within minutes of each other to find a very nearly dead collapsed foal and a confused large mare. The clearly shocked vet had no idea what to do, Amanda told her exactly what to do and almost how to do it, it was just horrendous watching a vet with hands shaking putting a drip into him - but we knew we had no time to call a more senior vet. I won't bore you with all the details but Amanda was just brilliant and helped us milk the mare, tube the foal, all the time guiding the vet through, when all treatments that could be done, were done she looked at me and said "he doesn't look very good, I don't think he's going to make it" she left and we watched him sleep, all in his hands now. A long 45mins later he woke up, he wanted to get up so we helped him stand and got him over to his mum, he suckled - I cried!!
We know he is not yet out of the woods but he is now cantering round the large strawed down yard all is still crossed. We have no idea who the stallion might be but he is a huge foal!!
Thankyou Amanda so much

It was the vet that said "he doesn't look very good"
Must just add that when she saw him the following day she just stood there with her mouth open saying "I can't believe it, I can't believe it"

That's fabulous - Amanda is the best person you could have had with you in this circumstance! This young boy has been very lucky so far. Please post some pics!

I do hope he is going to be OK..... this reminds me of a fat riding pony mare my cousin once had to school etc. I was jumping her over some little jumps and she was absolutely fine. Next week a big foal.. how bad did i feel. Both were well thankfully. |

I hope he is soon strong and healthy. I once brought a mare who was so poor she could hardly stand. A week later she produced a strong and healthy chestnut filly! With plenty of t.l.c. both went from strength to strength. Good luck. xxx |

Quick update now that he is a whole week old!!!
Bit dull here today so he was out in a very swish 'Mark Todd' foal rug (borrowed from Amanda!!) Looks SO qute!!! The sun over the weekend has done super things and he looks like a normal foal, scouring seems to be settling down (thanks to Amanda!! Pro Kaolin sorting him out).
We are even daring to think of names for him now!! All still crossed! I will work out how to put pics on here and post some asap!!
