a whole month already don't know where the time goes. Anyway thought i'd share some pics of his first show.
I still can't get over what a complete sweetheart he is. Bearing in mind his first two weeks were spent on box rest as he manged to bang himself on the journey and after that I just started walking him out round the roads he has been a complete gentleman. He's not mad keen on fast traffic particularly when he is on his own and doesn't like vans and bigger too much but he listens to you and is very sensible and I don't suppose he ever saw so much traffic as he came from Carmathenshire.
Anyway I had no idea whether he'd been to any shows, I think he's done some dressage but no idea what else he's done, not a lot in the last few years anyway. Should have known he'd take it all in his stride it was only a little local show but had an arab class, unfortunately only one other entrant which happened to be Katie Davies on a posh partbred but at least we had someone else in the ring. I was so pleased with him as i'd only cantered him for the first time the day before because of his lameness so hadn't schooled him or anything since i'd got him and he still hasn't been turned out other than whilst I muck out but he went really nicely.
He really has the loveliest temperament I'm so so chuffed with him. Anyway sorry I seem to be waffling so here are the pics.

He's really lovely and looks so kind
I remember taking Po out for the first time to an endurance ride. I'd only had her 8 weeks and just didn't know how she'd react to it all. She was a star and like you, I was so proud, great feeling!
Keep us posted with pics and news, what a great start! (Apart from the box rest!)

Yummy - tons of engine room (width between his front legs for heart room), a superb shoulder and lovely little cannons! All coupled with a trusting temperament and a very, very lovely face! What more could anyone ask for????
Well done - he's gorgeous |

Ah thank you everyone I am so pleased with him. Still can't believe he's had so many homes and ended up at Llandbydder when he just seems so genuine in every way. For those of you that show will it matter that he is covered in scars over his front legs, looks like he's gone through a fence or something at some point but they are clearly very old and not lumpy or anything. Also when he was found starved he also had lost half his foot behind and it now grows with a huge crack. I only want to have some fun with him really but would like to do some showing on him but wondered if this would go too much against him? |

What a lovely horse and he is so lucky you found him. I wish you both many years of happiness.
To a good judge it shouldn't matter if the scars are caused by injury and not from brushing etc caused by a conformation defect. The only time it would matter would be if there were too equal horses and the judge lioked them equally then obviously the judge would give it to the horse without scars as it would present the better picture but that rarely happens.

Hi Joanna re showing, my horse is VERY badly scarred (bilateral) on her flanks and point of hips. I took her to quite a few shows and I always found the judges fair in that they judged HER and didn't let her scars put her down as she was being shown against mainly unmarred horses.
She regularly got second but like Barbara has said she would never get first unless she was up against one who had worse scars than her, which would be a bit hard!
Go for it and have fun! If we can do it anyone can!

Actually, you misunderstood me, Fee. There is no reason why she shouldn't get a 1st with her scars if she is the best horse in the class. If there are two equally good horses then the judge would correctly put forward the unmarked horse. However, if your horse was the better of the two then her scars should not stop her getting first place; her day will come!
I remember many years ago seeing a mare with very badly scarred legs win her class at Towerlands.

Excellent we shall give some showing a go then. I thought he'd be good for me to learn the ropes on rather before attempting anything with Ishara as she really needs another couple of years to mature as she's very young for her age.
Po looks lovely Fee I didn't realise she had scars.
He doesn't look very clean now unfortunately that was very short lived, oh the joys of having greys |
