From the time he first stepped of the lorry into the light and onto our yard, coat gleaming bronze in the sun light. We were all captivated in his spell. He took a while to settle in, but when he did, he had such a marvellous character and temperament.

We stabled him next to his young son with bars between them so they could see each other and so they became really good friends. Always very vocal with the comings and goings of the yard. He became good fun to have around.

We have some lovely young stock from him with hopefully 4 more due next year. He crossed so well with our Orayan mares (as he did with everything else, bringing the best out of every mare he went to).

Then a week ago, he went for his morning walk as usual through the orchard grazing on the lush grass and having a few choice apples off the tree (which he always loved). Then just after lunch, the girls were shouting from the yard that Mareikh had suddenly gone down and was unable to get up. The vet was duly called. But it was clear there was nothing he could do. Mareikh was dying. He passed away with us all there, curled up in the straw just like he was sleeping.

We are all stunned by the suddenness of this, Thankfully he didn't appear to be in pain. And although we have lost him he has left us so much in many ways.

Can I ask a favor, those who want to pay a tribute to him,and if you want to post anything, do by saying you gained, either through the eye or ear what you have in the field, or what he left in your heart,if we're left with something then maybe we don't loose them totally.

Somebody once told me, the pain we feel on losing these treasured friends is the price we pay for what they give us in many ways.

I'd like to thank :-
Mr Aggard & Round Oak for letting him come down to Cornwall
Crispin Mould for everything over the past few years,
And to Ryan Jones for introducing us to this horse int he first place, You always said it would work with our mares, and Ryan, you were right!

Oh Jane - I know what a terrible blow this has been for you. Mareikh was the start of a very promising adventure for you, to have this beautiful boy snatched away so soon is so cruel.

I remember the first time I clapped eyes on him in your stable - I was blown away. Gleaming bay, with this incredible, long flowing mane and tail - a truly beautiful head with huge eyes, a lovely deep cheek and and the tippiest of ears - a stunning stallion. It was lovely to watch him settle down over time, and to witness his friendship with his young son, and his lovely sweet nature.

I was lucky enough to use him on one of my mares, Aja Bint Estasha - and have been blessed with a lovely filly, Taiysha (pics to follow). I had always intended to one day use him with Chiya, thinking I had all the time in the world, with him on my doorstep, now the opportunity has gone

I feel so sad and disbelieving when I think that this gorgeous boy is no more, and that my dear friends have suffered such a devastating loss. But - Mareikh has left a wonderful legacy. It is easy to look at the beautiful Darcy and see his sire - all the foals at Riverview bear his unmistakeable stamp - I'm sure we will be hearing about his offspring for many years to come.

Love & hugs for Jane, Mark, Ian and Sarah xxxx

RIP Mareikh - we lost you too soon and you are so sadly missed. Run free now.

I have never met or seen this boy in the flesh, but have the immense pleasure of having one of his sons as my best friend and true love.

Borris' wonderful, exceptional nature and true beauty are a living memorial to Om El Mareikh.

I am so sorry for your tragic loss, and that i will never get to meet him, as it was one of my ambitions.

I am shedding tears for you too.

I am so sorry for your loss and taken from you when he was in the prime of his life. I met him when he was at Harwoods he was lovely and has produced some amazing offspring. Take comfort from the fact that you were there with him at the end and that he knew nothing but love. He will be missed. RIP Mareikh x

I am stunned by this tragic news, the Arabian world has lost a king. I knew Mr Mareikh as I called him, when I worked at Round Oak and what an indelible mark he left on my heart; a true stallion in every way, he had the 'look of eagles' in his huge expressive eyes whilst carrying the pride and gentle love of a father in his heart. No one who met him could fail to be touched by his magesty and presence. He had a great sense of humour too-I remember the first moring I turned him out after only being there a few days and after some gentle rearing (very safely in his own space) he took off down the track past his gate-with me in tow and after letting go and fearing for my job I took off to find him, no running round like a loony and screaming at mares for our Mareikh-no, he was stood calmly under a tree a few hundred yards down the track waiting for me to pick up the lead rope & continue to his paddock. Having shown me in a most gentlemanly way who was boss and believe me he was chuckling, he never did it again-just testing the new girl! He was a pussycat in the stable but would always turn on the pizzaz if we had a visit-the more people watching the bigger the trot, after all they might have a mare to bring & he was going to make darn sure he impressed! I remember when Mrs Calvert made the decision to lease him for Harwood-I'd shown her a picture of Araby (Balenina/Mareikh) & so impressed with this young colt she made the journey to RO to see Mr Mareikh. He crossed so well with the Harwood mares, always improving yet retaining the best qualities of the mares & that stunning temperament shone through all his progeny. Pete will be devastated as he loved him so very much too and in my frequent visits to Harwood had never seen him looking so happy and relaxed with his harem around him. My heart goes out to you all for the loss of this great boy and friend.
Much love
Maria

My heart sank when I heard the news of Mareikh passing, Darcy has lost his daddy at such a young age, may Darcys dam Ffiligree produce another Mareikh in 2011 and all of his next year foals be as gorgeous as he

Rest in Peace OM EL MAREIKH you will never be forgotten.

Love Louisa Olivia and Darcy.x.x.x.

It's difficult to find the words to sympathise properly with those who cared for Mareikh: the Parfitt family, Crispin, Peter and others. He was a beautiful boy and it is so sad for everyone to lose him in his prime. Thankfully Ffiligree is in foal to him again for the third time and she and Mareikh have created quite a legacy together: Darcy, little Bing (in the show ring next year for Barbara) and her foal due at the end of March. I know that Jane and Mark have some beautiful foals by him and have mares carrying for the spring. Thank you Mareikh for what you have done for me; few breeders with one mare get a Darcy!! R.I.P.xx

This is such sad news, Mariekh was gorgeous, a horse that struck me as something special; beautiful Arab, beautiful horse, beautiful pedigree and sire of beautiful foals, what more could you ask?!

I sadly only used him once before he left Harwood but got a quite exceptional colt, GAS Polaris, now 2 and very much in the Mareikh stamp.

RIP Mareikh, you certainly left a mark on my heart!
